Games for a Snapdragon 821?

Zodiark1593

So, my smartphone (LePro 3)wallops the PS3 and Xbox 360 in GPU performance. I've seen some nice games on TegraZone (and of course the benchmarks), but as far as I'm aware, none are available for my phone. Any games available on Android (not just Play) that would put the screws to the SD821 GPU a bit?

Note: freemium games not welcome. I'm willing to pay for a proper game.

Unfortunately it seems that there is very few games for android. People wanted free crappy games so they got free crappy games.

The only two real games I've played are World of Goo and Little Inferno.

Much of my mobile gaming is via emulators, and a couple decent gems. Riptide GP2 is probably one of the better mobile focused games, and it comes with full graphics controls like you see on any PC game.

I would like a full blown single-player jRPG (or even an american rpg, something like Skyrim or Diablo) running on this thing that I could put some hours in while in bed.

A little frustrating. My Bay Trail device with all the GPU power of a potato can get Skyrim, Rocket League, or Torchlight, but there seems to be very little on Android that isn't freemium, in bloody 2017!?

Edit: I would really, really love Quantic Dream to port Hard Rain onto Android.

The interesting part is that I found mention of android in rocket league's config files. I hope they actually do it

tmw Android starts getting phones with powerful SoCs but nobody develops games for Android because its greatest strength (diversity) is also its greatest weakness.

Most games are poorly optimized for Android and basically every game that has an android and iOS version has significantly worse android performance, Its just the nature of the platform.

That being said World of Tanks Blitz and Atlantic Fleet are fun if you are into military games.

These are some of the best looking games on the App Store. Idk how many are on Android or how good they look.

But it really just browse Androids game section and look for best games by categories

That diversity thing doesn't seek to be much of an issue on PC, though brute force can make up for unoptimized code.

Actually, Atlantic Fleet looks pretty fun. I might grab that one eventually.

Cool, it makes sense. These are some of the largest games on the App Store, they should be on both platforms.

Now I just wonder how they look compared to iOS since Android is pretty far behind in graphics API technology.

The hell, Galaxy on Fire 3 isn't compatible with my device? Do the devs not like custom ROMs?

Edit: apparently devs can choose to support specific devices independent of its actual capability on the Play Store. Rather crappy...

Unfortunately, iOS isn't a perfect solution for myself either. Emulation software for games is definitely lagging which is where most of my mobile gaming is. (Screw Pokemon Go. Ruby version ftw).

Given the monstrosities of Apple's CPU cores though, it would be no surprise if a higher clocked pair could run PS2 and GC/Wii games at full speed with optimized software.

I would like to see the developer Quantic Dream make some stuff for the mobile duo. Fahrenheit, while a heavily flawed game/interactive movie, does work quite well on these platforms, and I would really love to see Hard Rain ported as well. It would be perfect to play while in bed. Though it would more than likely be ignored, I am tempted to send the developers an email.

On another note, I am mildly surprised that Valve hasn't taken the initiative to develop their own game distribution service for Android. If there's any individual company that has the resources and know-how to improve the state of Android gaming, its certainly Valve.

Edit: Heavy Rain, not hard rain. Derped on that one.

I dont think that's the best word to describe the A series of chips. That word usually has a negative connotation with it, not a positive one. The A10 Fusion packs probably the best GPU on the market thanks to Metal (apples graphics API) and running a PS2 game is an insult to something like the A10 Fusion....

Its an old vid but the idea has only grown significantly with the iPhone 7.

I mean it in a positive way. I find Apples approach in their custom CPU cores to be quite fascinating. Rather than following the industry in making a higher clocked, 3 wide core in a quad (or more) configuration, they went with a 4-wide, very large design that will probably scale well into the future. Implementation of SMT will probably see significant gains with their architecture. Much like with cars, Iexcelled seeing the differing approaches being taken in pursuing a similar goal.

While Vulkan is available to Android as a Metal counterpart, I don't see many Android developers using it for reasons discussed above.

Emulating a PS2 game is a deceptively significant task as shader hardware, the greatest weapon of modern GPUs, goes virtually untouched, so pixel fill rate and memory bandwidth take precedence, not to mention the CPU power to emulate the various components of the PS2s emotion engine, a task even desktops can struggle with. This is why even the PS4 Pro cannot render some PS2 ports in 4K, as while the shader performance is a significant jump, focus on pixel fill and bandwidth performance (where the PS2 greatly excelled for its time) is comparatively limited in modern GPUs (not without reason of course :P).

Sadly, can’t find any premium Android games with boundary-pushing graphics.

The only ones I play are freemium racing games. CSR 2 has some great graphics but it’s a freemium title. Same goes for Gear.Club and Asphalt XTreme.

Jeez. And I know my Moto Z and iPad Pro 12.9 2015 have the power for them....

I've been playing some Riptide GP2 a little bit. This device completely chews through that game at maximum settings, at least, until thermal throttle kicks in, so it may not even matter. :P

I found a neat little gem called Shadowmatic. Its a puzzle game where you make silhouettes of various figures. The shadow effects, volumetric and post effects are quite impressive. While fairly simplistic, the shader effects seem to push devices pretty hard. There's also a scaler option to reduce (or increase) resolution if you don't feel like holding the power of many suns in your palm.

While not necessarily a demanding title, The World Ends With You is definitely on my wish list. It is essentially a full featured game and priced as such ($18), though compared to remakes I see on consoles nowadays ($50 for FFXII?!), its quite inexpensive.

Some of the Square Enix titles on Play Store are actually quite taxing for the GPU. Here are some of the ones I have on my V20 (using Snapdragon 820):

- Chaos Rings 3 (gets my V20 hot after 45mins of playing)

- Final Fantacy Tactics: War of the Lions (not very taxing, but drains battery pretty quick)

- Dragon Quest 8

- Ghost of Memories

- Limbo (pretty light title)

- Leo's Fortune

- Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee

- GTA San Andreas

- Implosion - Never Lose Hope [full version through IAP] (The most taxing title I have in my V20)
