How many of you is guilty of "I know this is way too overkill for me but I got it anyway" syndrome?

the only real overkill parts i currently have are my 860 watt psu and over 11 TB in storage drives wile only needing like 5TB, also some would say i have gone overkill on my triple displays but i use them all the time so...

i know it sounds like a lot but in my defence i have a lot of uncompressed 1080p movies and series that i bought on dvd, blueray and vhs in the past , also i used to do a fair bit of youtube gameplayrecordings back then and decided to ''futureproof'' just in case.

i ''only'' payed around 600 euro for all that storage in total if you want to know

Blueray DVD movies can be as large as 20+GB per movie.

i know, its a lot of storage for some of those movies and series but the quality is realy worth it imo.

I only get what I need because I often cannot afford to go overkill. Simple as that, nothing more to it.

 

However saying that, I will always get the best thing I can afford at the time so it also lasts longer. My MB was only £35 when I bought it, so to make it even better I did a BIOS Update and I can now get my CPU to 4.6GHz stable. Really good CPU and MOBO combo ngl.

well in a few months im going to be buying a $3800AUD laptop (only about 2300USD because import taxes and exchange rates are shit) which is overkill of what im going to use it for (for now) but it should certainly last for quite a number of years

If I was you, I would take out all the drives you don't need currently and store them in a safe place. Only when you need to upgrade the storage, then you should put one or two drives in at a time when you actually need them. Will increase their life span by not having them on constantly for no reason at all

Upgraded my cpu to an i7 4790k simply because it is the best for my board. I just wanted it.

 

I also bought a gtx 1070 tho i only play 1080p 60 fps. A rx 480 would be plenty. I just sold my gtx 1070 for a good price because i played too much. I play mostly LoL anyway which i play now with integrated gpu and it is ok.

Is it truly overkill, though, if you do get to experiment and play around with the possibilities as a hobby?

I tend to think about overkill like "I could have less powerful hardware and I wouldn't notice" in my actual use case", more than "I have more than I strictly need for survival"  

I mean, it is a question of "more than you need" in the end, but "need" can be taken very strictly (like, for work) or more loosely (I will use it, even if just for fun)

2. I play on iGPU now.
