SLI and Crossfire are going down and probably won't even be supported by games for too much longer. 1070 is a much safer bet and will perform similar to a 980 ti.

get the 1070

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

2 970s will outperform a single 1070 when SLI is available, but these days there aren't that many games that support it so really the 1070 might be a better choice.

The other big thing is unless you have your power paid for the 970s will use a lot more juice.

Two way is still supported, but not like multi gpu used to be supported. Many games won't even scale more than 30% on the second card.

I wonder what the reason for the "ban" on SLI is. Is it "because nvidea told the game devs"? If so, will AMD change their opinions? I mean, AMD does like the idea of SLI, right? So in the future, Vega and all that stuff... SLI might become moar popular again?

Multi gpu has always been a kind of niche thing to do, game companies are now just getting lazy enough to not code correctly since nvidia dropped 3 and 4 way.

Get the gtx 1070 because the 2 gtx 970 setup will be heavily limited by the 4ish gb or vram the cards have.
