$500 Oculus Rift or $600 HTC vive?

So far I'm not having any luck getting an HTC vive on eBay at a reasonable price. In my area there's a dude that's selling an oculus rift with the touch controllers and a 3rd sensor for $500 on Craigslist. (my budget is $550 btw)

I know what you're thinking, "you can't trust anyone on Craigslist and you'll get scammed". Okay? The same could go with eBay too.

I'm going to have him test it at my place to see if everything works.

I don't feel like waiting for shipping and taxes atm so idk.

I used to be leaning towards the Vive with its great tracking, but the price is just too steep. And the controllers are weird....

Any suggestions or advice? I'm using this for VR game development and a few productivity projects as well.

Honestly, if you are using the thing for development I would keep pushing at the vive angle, it has a much wider user base and if your game is something you wanna sell it will be better in the long run.

So I've got 2 people that one has an used Oculus Rift CV1 with the touch controllers and a 3rd sensor for $500 USD.

And the other dude has an HTC vive for $600.

Don't just tell me "make sure it works" and whatnot, I'm going to test it at my place.

I just need help deciding! Help!

I personally use the Vive, but can vouch for either if you're looking to get into VR. I'd recommend using a bike hook in the ceiling to hold the wire harness so that it doesn't trip you or weigh your head down as much.

Command hook? It's an adhesive-based hook that comes off cleanly.

If the $500 Rift comes with the controllers and it works after testing, go for it. Still a great choice.
