Should I sell my 1060

1stNeonStar

I have a gtx zotac 1060 amp 6gb, and I am aware they are selling like hotcakes because of bitcoin mining if I understand correctly? A: Should I sell now and make a profit? B: Where should I do so?

I wouldn't to be fair. The graphics cards which are being bought for very high prices are amd cards since they perform much better in ethereum mining.

I dont want to sell to normal peps, I want to sell to the people mining with the gpu's still paying $400+ for a 480, let alone a 1060.

But because there's no AMD card on the market, the nVidia ones have rising prices as well.

If you can afford a 1080 after selling the 1060, I would sell.

The prices are very weird right now. People are starting to buy 1060s for high prices due to the insane inflation AMD cards have got to. Give it a week and see how it looks

But the issue is much much worse for amd. There are literally no 570s or 580s available anywhere, while 1060s are still readily available for near msrp from most major retailers such as amazon at least here in europe.

I'm guessing only the few desperate people out there who can't get a hold on AMD cards, are buying Nvidia cards instead.

In my case I'm tempted to sell my 7970Ghz considering it apparently can still sell for like $200 USD. After which I could buy a RX580 when this whole mining crap dies down....
But then again I wouldn't have a GPU to replace it in the meantime so screw that. 9_9

It's ridiculous that an RX580, that retailed for $200USD MSRP...now cost triple that... By scumbags who buy what little stock there is in stores and reselling it.

I`d  have to agree even if you could sell it and buy a 1070 not even a 1080, It's still a step up and probably worth doing. I am assuming if you bought a 1060 it will probably be running your setup fairly well if not very, Thus a 1080 would probably be overkill.

This reminds me of the suprime mortgage bubble. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the price of these graphics cards is sky-rocketing because people expect the cryptocurrencies to keep appreciating. If (when?) mining stops being profitable, the miners will try to sell everything they bought as fast as possible in order to recover their investments. Same will go for the geniuses who will have bought several cards based on the assumption that they would only get more expensive. If (when?) that happens, 580s, 480s, 1060s and even 1070s will be dirt-cheap, and probably most other cards as well (because why would anyone buy a 460 or a 1070 if there are dirt-cheap 580s available everywhere?). We'll have to wait and see, but as far as I know, it could be raining 580s in just a few months.

Sell it now -> make profit -> wait for the Bitcoin bubble to crush -> market will be flooded with people selling their now useless mining cards -> buy used RX580 for probably less than half of MSRP -> invest remaining cash in some other bubble -> pull out in the right moment ->  become a millionaire.

Didn't a situation like this happen a couple years back when Bitcoin first appeared? Before the dedicated ASIC miner came around...

I expect this trend to last until somebody figure a way to make more efficient hardware specifically for mining those coins.

Wow I think this is the first time that I have seen a graphics card cheaper in europe than in the us.
