License to get pulled?

I was wondering if I would need a drivers license to get pulled by someone? I want to buy a project car but dont have a license and in order for me to get the car back to my house I need to get pulled by a pickup truck using a rope. Any help would be great.

You get someone to tow it on a car trailer or by a tow truck.  You don't use ropes or chains

I don't know the legal specifics (which highly depend on where you live anyway), but I've done it before with a tow rope without issue. Just have someone is the tailing car to work the brakes and steering. Keep in mind that without power you will not have power steering or braking which means turning will be hard and you will have to basically stand on the brake to stop the car.

Call your local PD and ask if it's legal. If it is go slow, use your hazards, and be smart.

 

Edit: I just realized you mean a drivers license... Yes, you will need a license is you want to be towed on any public roads. Ask someone who has one to drive for you, You will also need insurance on the car (even just for towing). You can ask your insurance company if they are willing to insure it for just one day so you can get it home.

 

The best option (albeit not the cheapest), is to just hire a tow truck to move it for you. Then you don't need anything, maybe just a title to prove to the tow company that the car is yours.

Um... how about telling us what part of the world you're in? Laws differ from place to place, believe it or not.

I've called a tow company and they said they can tow it for $100 bucks so I'm just going to do that instead

Do that, less of a hassle.  At least it will be done by pros and you won't need a license since you won't be driving anything.

Tow companies charge like $2/km. Get it towed by a professional before you kill yourself towing a car around with a rope.

Yeah those 2 wheeler haulers you need insurance on the vehicle.

But using a trailer then the vehicle is just a load.

 

Towing with rope, chains or tow straps is a major major crime in the traffic code. People do it, but its so god damn dangerous, probably a huge ass fine.

 

Maybe look into something called CAA (Canada) or AAA (USA), its a tow club where you can get 3 free tows for the rock bottom price of $50. They also provide gas, tire changes, lock out services. Tow up to 50km for tier 1, 350km for tier 2. Always go for the longer tow distance, always.

 

Credit cards offer roadside assistance as well, even insurance companies now, like Geicho (Warren Buffets Company).

 

If you are in the UK or AUS they would have the exact same thing, just search Road Side Assistance. You'd need to allow a day or two to pass after you sign up as per their rules.

 

Otherwise $100 is cheap for a tow.

You can always ask your local law enforcement before hand. They can would much rather you talk to them before hand rather than testing your luck.
