NH D15 memory clearance?

MeatFeastMan

Since I have heard that the noctua nh d15 with dual fans has memory clearance issues..I don't really know where to go about dealing with this problem. Could anyone recommend some memory that will fit? It has to be compatible with the gigabyte ga-990fxa ud3 r5 motherboard (So DDR3 up to 1866MHZ I think)

Thanks.

Something like Corsair Vengeance LP is a good choice. Basically anything with a low profile heatsink should be fine. Or, if you're not fussed about looks you could just go with a bare kit of RAM.

They should have a list on their site but the safest bets are always things like the HyperX Fury models. No stupid fin pipes on the top. G.Skill is usually cheaper though and should be fine too (it's fine for my NH-D14).

The NH D15 has clearance space for high-profile RAM. I think most RAM should fit.

The issue is with using dual fans.

Yeah, that was the issue. I am after maximum performance so I'm going for the two fans. Would anyone be able to provide some links for compatible ram?

Ripjaws, Vengeance LP and Hyper X ram are all good choices. Tall heatsinks on ram look dumb anyways and are a pain.

The fans can just be seated higher up, as needed. That's what I did with my NH D15, like in this image.

the issue is they tend to bump in the sidepanel on some cases that way :P

Just don't go for some of the tall G.Skill products, Corsair Vengeance LED, or Dominator Platinum RAM and you'll be fine. I have Corsairs red LED ram in my ITX build and the only reason I get away with it using my Hyper 212 is because the radiator isn't so big (like on the NH D15) and the fan can slide forward a bit.

It's kinda hard to see but maybe this helps: (You can tell the fan isn't level with the top of the radiator)

Found this in 30 seconds on Noctua's website. you are clear for 32mm RAM heights. A bit more if you're willing to move up that front fan. Google is your friend =)

The clearing issue is usually with the fans and not the cooler itself. I have used Corsair Vengeance LPX and Gskill ram and have had no issues mounting the cooler. I did have to mount the fans a little higher than normal to clear the ram though. Assuming your case has some headroom to raise the fans, it shouldn't be an issue.

you could also look into putting the fan on the back in a pull config, should function the same as if it were pull, unless there's something blocking the back end of course

Where ar you shopping at? RipjawX will fit fine, so does HyperX Fury/Savage, normal Vengeance, Crucials stuff etc. Or you can have 2nd fan pulling from other side.

I'm planning on using the corsair carbide air 740 which has 170mm of cpu cooler height.

With that clearance you aren't going to have issues. Just don't get any stupic high profile RAM like Vengeance Pro, Dom Plats, HyperX Predator or Trident X. I have U14S and RipjawX DDR3. I can use dual fans without issues in R4 which has same clearance for coolers.

I have G.Skill Ripjaws, but I had to remove the heatsink of two of my 4 sticks (the two near the CPU). But as they are not visible because of this monstrum of a cooler and they don't really need cooling, that is not a big deal for me.

But removing the heatsink gives you a heartattack when you put them back in and get a memory error. Until you find out, you haven't plugged them in correctly, because there is 1kg of aluminium in your case which blocks the view to 90% of the motherboard. :D

But good and silent cooling bro, I'm using it for my FX-8350 toaster @ 4.8 GHz.
