How well would a first gen i7 or i5 run arma?

Cantaloupeman

I got a decent idea recently. I really only want to run arma on my pc so what if i just get a 750ti and a i7 960. How well would a build something like this run arma at ultra/high?

The CPU should be ok:

I doubt you will get ultra on the GPU though

http://www.techspot.com/review/712-arma-3-benchmarks/page3.html

That GPU is actually slower than a 650ti boost in amra 3

If you can, try and get an AMD 280 or Nv 770/970, much much better cards, but not sure on used prices

If you're talking about Arma 3 and multiplayer, I don't think very well.

If you're talking Arma 3 and singleplayer with few AI, I think it could maybe reach 60 FPS. Arma 3 is a very poorly optimized game, especially when there is hundreds of objects, vehicles, and AI running around the map. Once you get to multiplayer, it gets even worse because every player takes away a little bit of performance on top of AI, objects, scripts, etc. You could buy A3 and try it out, and if it doesn't run well you can always refund it as long as you purchase it from Steam.

Processor will make a much bigger difference than the graphics card no matter what. my secondary rig has an fx6300 + gtx 460 and is still limited by the processor on arma 3 @ 900p.

I'd say about 30-40fps on ultra with the i7.

Well i mainly play multiplayer on exile dayz. I get 23+ fps on my apu machine right now and just am looking for 40+ really. I know how badly optimized it is but i think there is definitely something to be said for my friend who never dips below 40 with his 980 and i7 4790k.

don't get a 650 ti, instead of that you should get a used 660 ti just because they are around the same price.

Exile and DayZ? So zombies and missions? How many people does the server you're going to play on average?

Is it Tanoa? If it's Tanoa I don't know how even your buddy with the 4790k is running 40FPS and higher all the time. If it's another map then you can try, but you'll probably be in the 20-30 FPS range.

Yeah pretty sure its on tanoa as well. Ill ask him though. Usually when i ask him he says around 50. But anyway what would be the absolute cheapest pc i should buy to run arma? Like i doubt the graphics card matters as long as it is a graphics card. So then should i just get whatever i can find for the best deal and then an old i5 or i7? Or will that not be good enough?

The graphics card does matter if you're playing on high or higher, despite what people say about Arma being CPU intensive yadda yadda all that crap. I can't give you an ideal price tonight, but tomorrow I can help you out if you have that time to wait.
