Anyone heard of UltraColor Gamut?

EthanCGamer

So I have a Gateway FHD2400 from 2008 (I think, it was my dad's) and on the bezel sticker it advertises "UltraColor Gamut 92%". I tried finding what that is, but all I see is a Harvard paper from 1995 about Kodak printers using it, but nothing about displays. So that leaves me wondering what the heck is 'UltraColor' and what it even compares to? Is 92% good? Bad? I can provide more info about the monitor if needed.

Sorry for potato quality picture.

The entire range of colors available on a particular device such as a monitor or printer. A monitor, which displays RGB signals, typically has a greater color gamut than a printer, which uses CMYK inks.

The geek himself.

Ultra and color don't really have anything to do with each other it probably has an 92% color gamut. But saying ULTRAcolor sounds better.

The real question is why you left the sticker on it. That's just pure anarchy

Yeah it sure does! But I want to know what 92% means, in terms of sRGB or rec 2020? I'm surprised that I can't find but one relevant result?

So I guess the monitor can display 92% of what a 1995 Kodak printer could print? This is what I found, maybe the full paper defines the gamut?

It has a rainbow shine effect when I move my head around, so I keep it because I am easily entertained.

I found the paper, it's DOI is 10.1117/12.206553

It talks about unification of multiple devices with differing gamuts, which makes me even more confused. I guess it's just marketing talk, and probably is only 92% sRGB. I suppose I'll never know.

Maybe this article can help? https://www.lifewire.com/lcd-monitors-and-color-gamuts-833038
