[Rumor] Skylake-X and Kabylake-X to Launch Simultaneously Q2 2017?

According to Benchlife, a roadmap of Skylake and Kabylake has leaked, showing large platform upgrades on the horizon between the Z270 platform and the next enthusiast/E5 socket. Basin Falls and Purley are now two distinct different platforms. Basin Falls is strictly a 1S platform, where Purley will accommodate 2, 4, and 8S options. Purley features expand further and are socket-compatible with the Knight's Landing chips.

First, instead of 40 PCIe lanes being Intel's standard for CPU-bound lanes, the limit will be increased to 48, and the chipset will be allocated a whopping 20 additional lanes to handle NVMe storage solutions without affecting accelerator options. Unfortunately, it looks like SATA-IO still doesn't have its act together and won't have SATA 4 ready in time. (I've been praying for the death of SATA since SAS really has no excuse to be greater than 10% more expensive anyway and SAS is a superior solution).

 

Second, socket and chipset compatibility is guaranteed from Skylake-X (E?) through Cannonlake-X (E?). The Z270 chipset will support all 3 generations as well.

 

Third, at least for the E5 BF platform, core counts will top out at 28, and out of the box ECC RAM support will go up to 2666 MHz speeds, a near 25% increase in bandwidth. This should be very beneficial for compute servers and database hosts since increases in bandwidth at the same CAS create a net decrease in latency.

 

And, at least if Google Translate is correct, these two architectures will launch the same platform together. Perhaps Kaby Lake is more efficiency-focused, which would provide justification for servers, but that is purely speculation.

 

I'm glad Intel's adding all the lanes to the chipset to support more NVMe options. NVMe 4-way RAID card here I come.

I don't get the roadmap showing Broadwell going on forever on desktop. Is there some niche I'm overlooking? The eDRAM is good, but weren't they moving it into some Skylake skus (not necessarily desktop).

 

As for the extreme processors, I could see them try to reduce the lag between mainstream and server, so maybe Skylake-X could serve perhaps the lower part of that, with Kaby Lake-X in the upper part.

 

The faster supported memory speed is the biggest thing for me since that is still my biggest bottleneck. Yes, I know I can get enthusiast platform now and overclock it, but I'm thinking my next desktop will be Xeon and ECC so I pretty much don't have to worry about instability.

Am I misunderstanding something or are you guys? That charts seems to show a Skylake CPU running on a Kabylake PCH, I see no indication of any KL CPU at all? Seeing as the post is by LMGs resident genius I'm sure it's my misunderstanding tbh.

From the article, Skylake-W will use the Kaby Lake chipset. This is a single socket platform vs the dual socket found on Skylake-X.

Ram setup still stayed the same at DDR4 quad channel and but socket has changed from 2011-3 to 2061. Skylake-X on the other hand might have DDR4 hexa channel and run on socket 3467, where some say it's the same as Knights Landing.

That's the only picture we haven't already seen. The rest was on existing roadmap graphics, but this leak confirms it.
