 Oh it's the 1/16th thang, I had one of those, it was pathetic. Granted it was running a brushed motor and a 9.6v NiMH battery, but that's beside the point. Get the brushless version and a 3s lipo, or find your own brushless motor and ESC and a 3s lipo.

could you link a $200ish one? i might be upgrading, though i would prefer to have it all pretty much done

Can't find the Slash 1/16 with brushless but there is the 1/16 E-Revo which would be better for bashing around with it's wider wheels. pretty sick, but kinda a lot. i dont insist on 4wd, i just saw it for a great price. i want something with dirt and off road capabilites. checked out the rustler (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OK3AC9M/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A15DTMM40CG6VX) sounds pretty good

Like to bash around? If so I think the E-Revo would be better, but poke around Horizon and maybe that other one and see what you can find. Perhaps a buggy?

i do like to bash around. are buggys good for holding the throttle at max all the time and loose dirt?

35mph with the nimh battery and stock gears, (fully charged). Look on ebay for an SC10 or a Tekno 410 or an HPI Blitz or an sc10 4x4 or losi 22. All great trucks.

I would, but I just moved to university which is in Washington DC (which btw, is a no fly zone...) and I didn't bring my RC stuff, so unfortunately, I can't actually rip any packs until winter break.

I don't think the change from flysky to the 9xr is that big of a change. I would suggest that you grab more batteries, so that you can have longer flight times. That would be my advice. That being said, if you've had issues with the flysky stuff, then by all means, go ahead and upgrade. I just don't think it's really worth it if everything else is working just fine.

If anyone needs LiPo stick packs let me know. I got TWO Venom 5000 Mah 60C 2S Stick Lipos in great condition, only been used one season. Yes because they are venom, life time warranty. Asking 65CAD each or 120 for the pair, i will cover half the shipping cost. These are 140$ + tax new each and have lifetime warranties so if they puff up or whatever just email venom with a pic and you get a new one.

Just had a 3S Lipo puff while driving the car. I could barely get it out before it caught fire. It is currently sitting in some salt water. RIP my 3S pack. I guess I will be getting another 3S

Right but Sbus and Fr sky technology vs cheap ass fly sky. I really need to clean up the clutter on my quad and switching to Sbus will be a great first step.

Just flashed Betaflight. So far I'm impressed with the PID controller, it seems to be a lot better but I still have some tuning to do.

is an ecx torment 1/18th or 1/24th a good beginners rc? also, is it upgradeable to a brushless motor and a lipo?

they're also quite hard to start (well some are, hpi and traxxas have a roto-start thingy which is neat and easy to use as it inserts into the back of the engine and tuns the motor) as you have to mess around with tuning and idle screws + glow plugs, but once that's all out of the way they are a heap of fun and can take quite a beating.

 I have a couple of Traxxas R/C cars namely a Rustler, a Stampede, and a Revo 2.5 nitro. I love the Revo's 4 wheel drive especially where I live, there are a lot of fairly steep hills with loose dirt and it just flies up them. However, it is really finicky and I had to install a temperature monitor to prevent overheating and cut a bunch of holes in the body to improve air flow. It is definitely not something that you can just jump into. Think of the noise of a 90s hondacivic with a tuner muffler on it, that is what they sound like, I have had to dispose of a ton of leftover fuel that I did not use because it does not keep well. 

If you have driven electrics for at least 200 hours I would say that you may be ready to take the leap to nitro. But if you want a nitro car just for the flash, I would recommend that you go for something like a VXL Rustler or Stampede as with a lipo and the right gears these can exceede 60 or even 70 mph, I personally have gotten my Rustler up to 73 mph beforehand re shattering the slipper clutch and melting the differential. And that took me about 5-6 hours to repair. 

The intros are not as strong as many people think though, I curbed mine at about 20 mph and bent the suspension, aluminum skid plates, and the drive shaft, but fixing them is almost as much fun as driving them.

Its okay, personally id start with a losi 8ight mini instead, it can be heavily upgraded but runs great out of the box.
