1000$ laptop

Hi, im about to go to university in a few months and im gonna need a laptop.

Im gonna go to computer science and i would like to know the best choices for a 1000$ laptop.

This is principally a laptop for work and maybe, play some light games (like League of Legends)

Btw i was thinking on buying a surface 4, since it can be converted into a tablet and is light weight, but i dont know if thats a good choice.

Surface 4? Oh wait, you already said that. If you seem to like it, why don't you go with it? L.O.L doesn't generally need anything more than an 8600 GTS (basically equivalent to HD Graphics)

ASUS Zenbook UX303UB

Specs and why:

8 - 12GB RAM

Newest skylake i7-6XXX-U processor

Has a 940M which can play LoL at max at 1080p at ~ 60fps or more

Sleek and thin (good for carrying around a uni campus), weighs under 1.5kg

Has an SSD (from 256GB depending on configuration)

1080p - 4K screen

You can buy it here on newegg (i could only find a refurbished one): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834234091&cm_re=ASUS_Zenbook_UX303UB-_-34-234-091-_-Product

Or here new for 1100$ on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/ZenBook-UX303UB-13-3-Inch-Touchscreen-Discrete/dp/B014VHVZFQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1462382740&sr=8-1&keywords=UX303UB

Note that it also has a cheaper option which has an i5, 256GB, 1080p screen, no dedicated gpu and 8GB RAM for 800$. This is a compelling offer if you do not need a dedicated GPU (lol should also run at 60 fps on high settings with the integrated gpu).

for computer science you want the best keyboard. i would really go with a thinkpad. 14" or 15,6" if its not to big for you.

Desktop Build Log http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/486571-custom-wooden-case-with-lighting/#entry6529892

thinkpad l450, i5-5200u, 8gb ram, 1080p ips, 250gb samsung ssd, fingerprint reader, 72wh battery <3, mx master, motorola lapdock as secound screen

Please quote if you want me to respond and marking as solved is always appreciated.

GOD DAMN YOU. You beat me to it.

Get a ThinkPad because:

1. Best keyboard, the next step up would be a mech keyboard.

2. Easy to fix

3. Can take a beating

4. They look kinda old in their design so a thief would not really look at it unless he knows something about laptops.

5. You can spill water (or vodka ;)) on the keyboard and it will just run though some water channels and out of the laptop. ( I do not recommend spilling things on your laptop)

6. There is always parts on the market for a ThinkPad.

7. You can take them to hell and back without them breaking.

No the last gen is just cheaper xD So kinda a little better value and you can find some used, so you can get 50% off if you are lucky. The 460p throttles a bit.
