Yeah, I totally agree. I've never been particularity partisan about software, I'd happily drop Android if something better emerged.

 

But I really dislike the iOS user experience, the simplicity and intuitiveness that seems to resonate with so many people is simply lost on me. I find it a deeply frustrating, cumbersome and restrictive experience.

SD-cards means apple has to compromise aesthetic for function, which time has told us, they won't do. Or didn't , in the past, and they don't want to revert that decision. I really think that's the real reason.

Funny you should say that... Mum uses a 3GS, and Dad has a 4S. Both are still running in perfect condition and they've had no problem with storage capacities. 

 

The iPhone is designed to deliver an uncompromising, premium experience. By adding variable factors, such as unknown SD cards, it would undoubtedly effect the performance and user experience of the phone.

No, why would I say that? I'm sure if you forked out $100 for the top of the line, fastest possible SD card you could find then it would be worth while. But if you're going to do that, why not just buy the model with a higher capacity and forget the SD card altogether? 

 

Nope. You're going to go to the store and buy the cheapest 32GB SD card you can find which will undoubtedly be much, much slower than the internal NVMe drive, and might corrupt at some stage... Which would, you know, effect the performance and user experience of the iPhone.

You're giving me a headache now. Look, we live in different countries, and I'm not sure what the exchange rate is between us, but I picked up a top of the line 64GB SD card for $40 US. Personally, I've never once had an SD card go bad on me, and I've been using them with every Android phone I've had since I got my first one in 2012. Apple giving you the OPTION to add external storage would hurt absolutely nothing (but their own pocket books), and would do nothing but serve to better the user experience. Again, the average user isn't installing apps to the SD card, so speed really isn't an issue (and if Apple did allow for SD card support, they could easily forbid you from installing apps to the SD card, just to keep things speedy). You're using it as a backup/mass data storage solution. (People who take literally thousands of pictures, have multiple gigs of music, or take a lot of video)

theres tradeoffs on both sides, and some people dont have the budget of an entry gaming rig to spend on a phone.

Okay true. That would be a good middle ground, I agree. Much like some skins of Android don't permit app installation on SD cards.

Honestly, it hasn't. Its gotten much much better than it was 5 years back, but its still not quite there. Its been 6 years since my last android phone, I went iPhone 4 then 5s then 6 and now I'm using a G4 to give android another try and its.. okay. Yes, its more "customisable", but that's only good since the default apps aren't great. the build quality is worse, the camera blows out highlights and isn't as colour accurate as my old iPhone 6, the battery life isn't as good and the updates are completely shameful.. Android has improved, but it still has a long way to go.

To be fair, those are like £24 in the UK, even with the exchange rate to NZD that price you're quoting is 2.4x too much.

They are better? No really some androids offer great things but the iPhone the flagship ones are pretty good. The prices though on all smartphones are crazy.

I think that's the case with most Apple innovations though. They take something that is out there and bring it to the masses in a better way (marketing...)

 

Yes, the Moto Atrix had a fingerprint scanner first BUT it didn't gel with Android and wasn't actually all that useful as all it did was provide another way to unlock your phone and wasn't used for anything else in the OS.

Long ago when the Note 3 came out. You know the phone with the 4 core snapdragon clocked in at 2.3 as well as a extra lower powered four core processor for a combined 8 cores as well as 3gb of RAM. Out at the same time as the iPhone 5s with its wimpy 1.3 dual core chip and 1gb of ram

3D Force touch and Touch ID are different things, but you're right with the finger print scanner... Those were on laptops, and other mobile devices well before Apple added it to the iPhone. The iPhone was a much better implementation, but that's another story.

Apple design and optimize their chips specifically for ios. Generally a 2.3 ghz octa core should blow a 1.3 ghz dual core out the water

It would, for multi-threaded tasks. Apple's single core performance is far superior to snapdragon chips and most applications don't utilize multiple threads efficiently, hence the performance similarities. 

 

Your argument is similar to saying that an AMD 8350 should smash an Intel i5 6600k.
