How do old GPU's compare against Intel integrated?

As topic title says.

How do old gpu's compare to intel's integrated gpu's?
When does it literally make no sense to buy an older dedicated gpu, if you have integrated GPU in your CPU. (Modern i5 or i7 rig)

 

I'm just thinking, the intel hd 5500 graphics are pretty stronq?? Or am I wrong?

also depends on the game

Its decent

it can do gta 5 at 720p at min. 45 fps ish

Better than entry level of current gen... probably similar to a 460ti or 470 at this stage... I'll have a quick look for a rough chart..

I replaced my nvidia geforce 6600gt with intel hd 4000 graphics, maybe 10% improvement over old card

That isn't true. First gen. Intel Core i3/5/7 had integrated graphics and I'm pretty sure that those weren't the first ones.

The i7 920 didn't.. Not sure about the lower ones but sandy seems to be (from memory) that they started doing IGPU... before that it was on motherboard IIRC

There were two generations of "1st gen" core processors, based on Nehalem (45nm) and Westmere (32nm). LGA 1366 CPUs (i7-920 and up) have never had integrated graphics, it was what LGA 2011 is today. The Nehalem-based i5/i7 processors (i3 did not exist at the time) on the mainstream LGA 1156 platform had no integrated graphics. The Westmere-based second generation of 1st gen Core processors introduced the i3 line along with some more i5 and i7 chips. Some of the Westmere 1156 chips did have integrated graphics on the CPU (though it was a separate die until Sandy Bridge, it was still on-chip graphics, not part of the board). This was called "Intel HD Graphics" with no numbers.

Intels hd3000 from i7 2600k is around 30% slower than an nvidia 8600gts from 2007.

HD 5500 is still quite a bit weaker than even a GTX 260, much less GTX 460.

HD 5500 is around the performance of an 8800 GT.

Even then a 260 will mop up shop vs it.

ive got Intel Graphics 4440 with an i5-4440 and i can tell you its quite good

on cs:go i get an average 60 fps with high settings :D

What resolution though?
