?Did my computer Blow Up?

Umm...

What the fuck just happened..

I finished rebuilding an old dell optiplex GX 280

Plug it into wall and INSTANTLY TURNS ON

I here the fans pick up speed to the point where i couldn't here anything but my computer.

It got WAY to loud and I didn't want to risk something shorting or exploding.

I pulled the plug for the wall and triad it again, same thing.

Whats wrong ?????

Have you checked the front panel connectors? Something may be shorting them.

What could the front connectors do that would cause this? I dont know much about the front connectors at all. But from the looks of it, they haven;t been moved or modified since it was bought a LONG time ago.

The power switch connects to the front panel connectors, and essentially shorts two pins to start the PC. They could explain why it starts straight away.

CAN MY COMPUTER EXPLODE

No, computers can't make a big explosion, they might catch fire at worst case scenario, just unplug if that starts to happen

Make sure the PSU is set to the right voltage, 110/120 instead of 220/240. There should be a little red slider in the back of the PSU. Stick a screwdriver in there and slide the little thing to change it.

You know that guy that games on a MacBook? I'm that guy.

Could it be because I switched out the pentium 4 with a Celron

This is probably it. If you put a CPU in a motherboard that doens't support it the fans will just turn fast, and nothing at all will happen. Try again with the Pentium 4. Or did it work before with the Celeron?

PC SPECS: CPU: Intel Core i7 3770k @4.4GHz - Mobo: Asrock Extreme 4 (Z77) - GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 680 Twin Frozr 2GB - RAM: Crucial Ballistix 2x4GB (8GB) 1600MHz CL8 + 1x8GB - Storage: SSD: Sandisk Extreme II 120GB. HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB - PSU: be quiet! Pure Power L8 630W semi modular  - Case: Corsair Obsidian 450D  - OS: Windows 7

However, following this advice, be extremely careful to not touch any capacitors or anything.

Sig under construction.

Test your hardware outside the case.
