[MOD] LGA771 to LGA775 CPU modification tutorial

harrynowl

Nope :)

I did have to update the BIOS though beforehand.

I'm just so surprised.... Most who try it with the 680i say they can't even get their motherboard to post with a 45nm CPU.

I got rebooted at the Windows logo/splash screen. I did get my dual cores working though and got them to a ~2000mhz FSB.

The question is should I get a X5460 ? I found one for $24.99 and the stickers for $3.95. I don't know if I should take the chance...

The most likely scenario is no; or not at stock. So i would just stick with what you have.

anyone know if this board:

P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe

  •

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5N32SLI_SE_Deluxe/

will work with an e5450?

The only core cpus supported are 800mhz fsb dual cores, so my guess is no.

Definitely not, the E5450 is a 45nm quad core that motherboard only supports single or dual core 65nm not even quad 65nm.

bugger... ok thanks guys. Im trying to find the right board on ebay for not lots of cash... so the P5N is out of the question... I found another P5n32 but ill scrap that idea as well

So what am I looking for exactly? 45nm quad-core support? any particular FSB requirement?

I think I might have won the game...

scored an old Dell OptiPlex 755MT desktop from the office it currently has a core 2 quad in it, I haven't fired it up yet to see exactly what it is...

- taken from a dell forum

"

These are the Quads we validated -
N652J 3.00GHz Yorkfield Quad Core Q9650, 12MB
F886J 2.83GHz Yorkfield Quad Core Q9550 12MB, 1333FSB, E0
N650J 2.66GHz Yorkfield Quad Core Q9400, 6MB, 1333FSB, R0
MP627 2.66GHz Kentsfield Quad Core Q6700, 8MB, 1066FSB, G0

"

given a Q9650 works in it - I assume the e5450 will

edit: so it seems that it has a Q35 chipset... and that these are confirmed as NOT supporting the e5450...

Crap, I already ordered it... If it doesn't work I really hope there is a bios flash or microcode that can make it at least boot up.

The X5460 came in the mail this morning I put in the sticker cut off the tabs and put in the Motherboard and let me tell you guys I sat there staring at my monitor speechless for a good 10-15 minutes. The X5460 works FLAWLESSLY with the 680i no microcodes needed or bios flash just stuck it in and booted up no problem. I will be doing stress testing to see how stable it is and might even post screenshots. I would have never thought they would work together.

Surprisingly it's actually the A1, also for anyone doing this mod with the same computer/chipset for some very odd reason you cannot use Ntune the second I try and open it up I get the BSOD.

the intel board won't and the gigabyte board might as it supports all of the good 45nm cpu's.

just got a

http://www.gigabyte.com.au/products/product-page.aspx?pid=1903#ov

going to try the 771 mod on it... if that fails I have a core 2 quad here anyway.

seems it supports ECC? does that work with any cpu? I have quite a bit of ddr2 ECC sitting around

On LGA775 all you need to worry about is the motherboard supporting ECC RAM.

Edit: And Xeons should work-http://www.gigabyte.com.au/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=1903

Edit2: Maybe not, look at all the good Core 2 Quads listed as not supported. It looks like only Netburst based CPU are supported.

oopd. dabobminable is right, that board doesn't even support 65nm c2q, they are on the cpu support list, but it says n/a which must have confused me. :(

It doesn't even support the dual cores-which is TBH nuts.

thats odd... it came with a dual core in it... im yet to try it - trying to build a solar powered computer at the moment... USB wifi dongles letting me down hard.

Is it a Pentium D by any chance?

955X chipset doesn't support the C-states used on core

So the motherboard is Netburst only then (cheap motherboard+cheap CPU=OEM's dream con).
