My friend wants to do this.....

Guest

So I built a PC for a friend recently, it has an i5 4690K, we OCed it to 4.0 Ghz, he also got a R9 280X.

It plays his games well and he is very happy.

I will however build a computer for another friend soon, he wants a better GPU, just for bragging rights I think.

Anyway, there is an issue, I told him instead of skimping on the CPU to get a R9 290 Tri-X (like me) he should really invest in an i5.

Now that we have his build we can't decide, he would like the 290, but if he does that he must go with an AMD CPU, original plan was to go with a 760k, now maybe with a 8350.

What is the best course of action? In my opinion we should just go Intel and get him the 280X, it's not like he needs the power of the 290. At all.

Also 600 watt PSU so with a FX8350 I am not sure....

760k LEL no

overclocked 83(2/5)0 (4.4+) minimum with a 290.

CPU isn't always make or break, but let's be practical here

They're certainly manageable with a decent cooler, the 760k is undercutting it a bit too hard.

What is the budget?

Well he first wanted a 500 euro pc then 1000, the he went batshit with a 144 hz monitor and R9 290 etc. to 1600 so I don't know.

He doesn't have his pay yet.

its "better" but like I said they are both so good they are fine for use, either of them.

True, but I heard nightmare stories with the power consumption and heat even with a custom cooler.

Ignore that, all by Intel fan boys. The 8350 uses less Wattage/TDP at idle than an I7 so yeah idk where they get this from... Its hot perhaps but if your using an aftermarket it will be more than fine.

intel only seem superior because of fanboys talking shit for every intel CPU there is an AMD that will preform just as well maybe a little worse for half the cost

A non-K CPU is also an option

The most common result of insufficient wattage is a paperweight that looks like a PC

Why don't you order the parts?

Well I want to see what other people would build. :P

We have the case, monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Remaining budget is for the actual parts.
