ASrock makes water resistant motherboards

Apparently Asrock is planning to release water resistant motherboards in their oc-formula series associated with Intel Haswell release. It will be an overclocking motherboard with a HDMI INPUT, thunderbolt, wireless network and a beefy power delivery system according to the picture.  B)

What do you guys think about this? Is waterproof motherboards the future for watercooling-guys or will it just be a new gimmick?

I think it looks great actually, would definitely match with MSI's yellow lightning graphics-cards.

Sounds like a sub ambient cooler's wet dream... No pun intended... As long as there aren't any disadvantages because of this.

This is if you're using a non-conductive liquid, distilled + stuff is also popular.

Even if non-conductive liquid is in use, I personally wouldn't risk it anyways since there's no way of knowing what properties might it loose/absorb after it's been in use for a while.

liquid nitrogen,liquid helium,liquid hydrogen cooling.

creates condensation, this would make it so that you don't have to insulate the board.

Its hust piece if mind. Its like Gugabytes fabricated glass mothervoards that are resistebt to humidity. However, if you spilled a drink on your motherboard, wouldnt that get into the gpu? Anyway, exiting stuff!

I'm more curious about the intended functionality of the HDMI input, if it is indeed an input.

nvm, article says it's for recording. that could be cool though, if it works well.

Well in terms of humidity and condensation don't some Gigabyte boards already have a certain degree of tolerance to that? Suppose this just offers similar protection to that, then again if you water cool a system with it and somehow your loop leaks this could be pretty neat. Thats kinda unlikely if you are sensible though.

Distilled / Non conductive water will pick up ions very quickly and become conductive.

I'm assuming this is for - Protection against spills, very high humidity, condensation - sub-zero cooling.

I think they covered the board in some non conductive coating, however I also think you can't just submerge the board in water since all the ports (PCI-E, SATA, DIMMs)... all of that... still has to conduct ;as shown in the picture the coke didn't actually go into the CPU socket or the PCI-E slot.

Can anyone enlighten me on why you would have an HDMI Input, i just cant think of a vaild reason for it.

I'm just a soul who is up to no good.

They're saying it's for recording. So you'll be able to record from whatever has HDMI out.
