Need help to plan a PC upgrade (cpu, mobo, ram)

I had built my pc in 2018 with b360pro-vdh, i5-8400, 2400mhz 16gb, gtx1060. Last year i upgraded to RTX 2060Super and this year i had planned to upgrade my RAM but i found out my mobo supports only 2666mhz (i cheaped out buying the mobo). I planned to skip ram upgrade and upgrade cpu, mobo and ram all together in november.

I want to go with Ryzen processor this time and 3200mhz ram. Is ryzen 5 3600 a good upgrade from i5-8400 ? is this processor good for another 2-3 years ?.

I use my computer to mainly play games and i play RPGs most of the time.I like good graphics :)

I dont want to make mistake choosing wrong components this time which will force me to upgrade again next year, please help choose the right components and make a better decision.

Thank You !!

for now wait for zen 3 and check what it has to offer.

but in gaming the 3600 can bring a nice performance boost in some games. especially if those games can use the extra threads.

PC: Motherboard: ASUS B550M TUF-Plus, CPU: Ryzen 3 3100, CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34, GPU: GIGABYTE WindForce GTX1650S, RAM: HyperX Fury RGB 2x8GB 3200 CL16, Case, CoolerMaster MB311L ARGB, Boot Drive: 250GB MX500, Game Drive: WD Blue 1TB 7200RPM HDD.

Peripherals: GK61 (Optical Gateron Red) with Mistel White/Orange keycaps, Logitech G102 (Purple), BitWit Ensemble Grey Deskpad.

Wait for Zen 3. I wouldn't call the 3600 much of an upgrade, if at all, when it comes to gaming over the 8400, at the moment of course.

Desktop: Intel Core i9-9900K | ASUS Strix Z390-F | G.Skill Trident Z Neo 2x16GB 3200MHz CL14 | EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER XC Ultra | Corsair RM650x | Fractal Design Define R6

Laptop: 2018 Apple MacBook Pro 13"  --  i5-8259U | 8GB LPDDR3 | 512GB NVMe

Peripherals: Leopold FC660C w/ Topre Silent 45g | Logitech MX Master 3 & Razer Basilisk X HyperSpeed | HIFIMAN HE400se & iFi ZEN DAC | Audio-Technica AT2020USB+

Accoring to this :

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B360M-PRO-VDH/Specification

Your motherboard supports up to i9  so get an upgraded CPU that you can afford, upgrade the RAM to a total of 32gb and get an SSD if you don't have one already. If you already have an SSD you can get a matching one and do Raid0.

Easy upgrade

i would not pair a 9900/k with that board. it can and most likely will throttle that cpu.

why? games don't need 16 gigs and that's a waste of money.

it's supposdly going to be announced/released in Q3/Q4 of this year, it most likely will, but we don't know.

the 8400 is still a pretty capable CPU, it would make more sense for waiting for zen 3

They're supposed to launch this year, going by what we've heard from AMD directly.

Do you game at 1080p or 1440p and 144hz monitor?
If your at 1440p I’d use what you have til ddr5 is a thing next year. If your at 1080p 60hz keep what you have. If your 1080p 144hz it gets tricky because you would benefit from a upgrade but is it worth spending $300+ to you ?

No cpu mobo or ram atm

2tb wd black gen 4 nvme

2tb seagate hdd

Corsair rm750x

Be quiet 500dx

Gigabyte m34wq 3440x1440

Xbox series x

I was worried about valhalla and cyberpunk. Currently when i play AC odyssey i see some fps drop when i go to towns. I get good fps when im in forest or areas that has fewer elements to render.
