Would appreciate some advice on my first PC build

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):-Looking to play at as high an FPS as possible, monitor I'm buying is 144Hz.

- does anyone see any problems with this config 

- would it be possible to downgrade the CPU without bottlenecking the GPU and impacting on gaming performance

Okay that's a little hard to read, also CMD+SHIFT+4 my guy  Alternatively a PCPartpicker link would have been good.

 

So skimming through it looks like you've chosen a Ryzen 3600, some Vengeance 2400MHz 16gb memory kit, an Asus B450 motherboard, Corsair 650W psu, and an Asus GTX 1660

 

Right off the bat, I think you should spring for a B550 motherboard to ensure out of the box compatibility with a Ryzen 3000 series processor. Next, I've read Ryzen tends to perform well with faster memory (to a point) so maybe see if you could spring for some 3000MHz (or faster) memory. Oh, there's a 120mm AIO in there. In my experience 120mm AIOs are too expensive for the performance their offer and you'll probably be better off with a nice air cooler that'll last forever like a Noctua NH-D15 or whatever the nice one is called. Other than those things it looks fairly solid.

tbh it is better to wait for 2-3 months to build, as new ryzen zen3 cpus and new nvidia 3000 series gpus are right around the corner.

 

but if you need one now, how is this?

I don't think you need a 3600 for a 1660. A 1600AF (if you can get it) or one of those new ryzen 3's would be fine. However, you should be able to get something like a 2060 for a £1000

Appreciate the advice, I'll for sure look into a better motherboard, the memory is actually 3200MHz as the website gives a free upgrade. I'm really new to this so glad it's not too bad

yes, definitely. 140 in pubg, 190 in apex, 190 in modern warfare, 200 in bf5, 170 in fortnite, 220 in overwatch etc

rthe 5700xt costs the same as a 2060super, but offers performance close to the 2070super. the 5700xt is a more value option, but in terms of pure performance, the 2070super beats the 5700xt.

 

if you were to go with the 5700xt, you could get a better cpu like a 3700x instead of the 3600 (if you waited till september, new ryzen zen3 4000 series CPUs are coming as well). but the 2070super is a good option, at your budget would pair it with a 3600 or 3600x

There isn't a huge amount of difference in performance between a 5700XT and 2070 Super. The AMD card is usually about £100 cheaper as well, so much better value for money.

 

The 5700XT will do a good job at 1080p and even 1440p.
