my gtx 970m is a 74% bottleneck for my laptop

Hi, when i tested my cpu i7 4710hq and gtx 970m and it said my gpu is too weak for my cpu being 74% bottleneck and recommends a gtx 1060. i am saving up for a alienware graphics amplifier, can someone recommend a good gpu for this cpu? thx

don't, when you can sell your laptop and make a pretty decent desktop. A graphics card as low end as a 1060 makes an external dock a waste.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Don't waste your money on a dock when for the price of one you can build a better pc or for the price of a dock + the money you get from the laptop when you sell it is going to get you a better laptop too.

What games do you play? What settings do you play them at?

I play doom 2016, tf2, crossout, skyrim, sourcefilm maker (super laggy). i play doom 2016 at high 1080p and get around 70 -80fps. tf2 works better on max settings oddly at 140fps and drops to around 80-90fps. crossout on high and a good 80fps+.

depends highly on where you sell it. Local markets, you'll have to check pricing in your area, eBay, they sell for about $400 to $500

external graphics docks aren't very portable, you'd be able to make an ITX PC which is quite small and easy to bring places.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

This build is quite nice, and combined with a Ryzen 3 3100 or 3300X which will be available in a few days, it's a killer mobile PC. You could also go for a used Ryzen 5 2600 or something to avoid the need for a BIOS update, but if you're interested in third gen Ryzen you should contact AMD customer support when you buy the motherboard so they can send you the free boot kit for updates.

Yeah, he won't have any issues with those parts (unlike what bullshit sites like that on other "bench" sites claim".

In short, the 4710HQ is a decent CPU for a 970M. If you want to upgrade, save up for a new laptop/desktop.

gpu temps are excellent, hardly reaches 70 degrees, cpu reaches 94 degrees max, i have cleaned it out twice, i switched toa  240w adapter. reapplied thermal paste, cleaned fans etc

edit: 70 on idle

Nope, bottleneck calculators are absolute garbage and should never be trusted. I play at 1440p 144Hz flawlessly.

The word "bottleneck" somehow managed to get demonized in the past year and a half or so, and im not sure how. You will always be bottlenecked in some way, even if its a couple percent. No system will perfectly match up in every game you play. Just choose your components based off of informed decisions and you will have a fantastic gaming experience.

Yeah you can build a better pc for the price but laptops cost come into place. Alienware 13,15,17 have insane build quality. 1080p and 4k displays too are super cheap for this model too. but i guess performance is outdated for this laptop. Any laptop with an "m" series graphics card is not worth it in my opinion. Tenth gen Nvidia really improved the mobile gaming scene, with crazy efficiency allowing full desktop graphics chips in laptops across the board.

The important thing you get with a mini tower is an upgrade path. No need for an external dock for more power in the future. So you could choose between a nice display or better features for the future, and for gaming, pretty easy to justify the former.

the one im after in the far future is alienware m15, i think they have desktop performance gpu and lga motherboard for cpu upgrade. But thats gonna cost £2500+. my laptop was £1500+ but that was 2015. i would hopefully like to build a desktop without having to sell my laptop

Yeah true, but if my alienware from 2015 can handle doom eternal 1080p on low at 50-60fps then surely it will still be a beast of a laptop and prices will drop. and if motherboard supports the newer cpus
