How long will an i7 8700K (5Ghz OC) be able to play the latest games?

I’ve read online that it’s not worth it to upgrade an 8700K to say a 9900K or 9700K and I’m wondering when an 8700K just wont cut it for playing the latest games and will require an upgrade?

 

I know CPUs aren’t the only thing that matters and GPUs are usually more important but I have a 2080 Ti and I feel my 8700K will become outdated before my 2080 Ti.

 

Im just wondering when it will be necessary to upgrade my 8700K if I want to play the newest AAA games at high/ultra settings with 60+ FPS? ?

At least another 5 years, unless they introduce a new instruction set and games use it a lot

Well the 3600 just came out 6 months ago and people are buying that now expecting it to last for a while.

 

And the 8700k at 5ghz is still faster than that, and has been around for 2 years already.

 

So I'd say quite a while.

 

People who bought them in 2017 made a good call.

I actually got mine in April 2018 and it’s been running surprisingly well and it just feels like it should be becoming outdated after as long as it’s been out but I haven’t noticed any slowdowns or performance issues with it.

 

I remember way back when I got my AMD FX 8320 I had to upgrade it after 18 months because it started bottlenecking my GTX 970.

If that’s so then the 8700K is one of the best CPUs to ever be released both price wise and performance wise.

That's because the FX chips were outdated before they even launched.

 

Skylake+++ is still gaming king today as long as it's got enough cores and frequency.

Yea with only 60 FPS being the goal, I’d say you have a lot of time.

It cost me a small fortune to buy my XC2 Ultra 2080 Ti so I’m glad to know my 8700K wont need to be replaced for a while.

 

Although even with my 8700K & 2080 Ti my Assassin’s Creed Odyssey frame rates are still pretty low at ~80 FPS @ 1440p on ultra settings.

 

Id like to get 144+ FPS in the games I play to take full advantage of my 144 hz monitor.

I was still playing at 720p until my cousin convinced me to buy a 1080p monitor. ?

Which is why I wonna upgrade and get a few more frames. Loving 240hz, but not sure how much i can get away with with this cpu.

60fps is easy to hit, that's why.

I prefer a more cinematic experience.

I don't know about you guys, my 8700K humps pretty hard. 

5ghz auto voltage and mad Memory clocks.

The kit I use is not cheap. 300$ Trident Z 4266mhz CL 19 tweaked to 16 at XMP CL 14 at 4000mhz. 

Gotta get the good stuff for Intel. It shines much better than on AMD.

It was $199 for 32GB of 3200 MHz ram. I could’ve gotten a 32GB kit of 3600 MHz ram for cheaper.

to be honest, i gave up because i got annoyed at the bounty hunters constantly chasing me around.

You're missing out on some mad performance that low of speeds.
