Graphics card upgrade ????

tophercrunch

I know ive asked this before, but since theres been changes, maybe i would get something different. So my desktop is a Asus Sabertooth Z77 with 16gb ddr3 1866mhz with a GTX670 OC and a i7 3770K. If i wanted to upgrade the video card what would you suggest ? My other alternative would be to buy a Chromebook and use Stadia, which i'm not to coinvenced yet with.

Eh. You can get an RX 580 for the same price with double the VRAM

Not great. Especially when a 3 year old RX 570 (that is easily $30 cheaper) generally outperforms it.

yeah i was looking at the 580 as well. What are the important specs besides GB in video cards you want to look for

just look online for benchmarks for the games you play comparing gpu's. there isn't one thing you can quickly look at to assess how well a gpu performs. it's a bit more complicated than in cpus (where you have cores and frequency)

I already do all that. Ok quick question is cuda cores more important than clock speeds when comparing cards ? i get that they both are, but trying to find a middle ground. Is there going to be a big difference between 4 and 8 gb cards like the RX 580, mind you that my pc is starting to get dated and just trying to get  few more years out of it. Until i have to bite the bullitt again.

You got the GTX 1650 and GTX 1650 Super mixed up there, the GTX 1650 Super is on pair with the RX 5500XT with performance between the RX580 and RX590.

The video card is the only thing you'll upgrade?

I'd look at the RX590 or GTX 1660 for the price point you're aiming.

I believe "compute units" is most important...that said me thinks "compute units" house the cuda/streaming cores...so it's confusing :(  Clock speeds are nice assuming they are running in partner with many "compute units".  I'd rather have a gpu with a clock speed of 1.4ghz pushing 40 compute units than a clock speed of 2.0ghz pushing 20 compute units.  That said drivers and architecture efficiencies of the cuda/streaming cores play a huge role.  The literature (advertisement jargon) is designed to be confusing.

Uh yes...? I think the i7 3770K can keep up for a 60fps target... not sure what you meant with your question though if I'm honest.

Then I wouldn't really bother with it... just use the GTX 670 bit longer and save up a bit more.

You're right...I'd still take an OC'd RX 580 ?
