pc High End PC Build From Used Parts?

Would you like to see Linus make a high-end PC from used parts and tell us why not?

Most people don't buy used parts for high-end PCs, so what's the point of the video?

No because if I wanted to see someone build a good PC out of used parts I'd watch TechYesCity.

The only time I ever see used gear on LTT is during Scrapyard Wars and that's good enough IMO. When people build high end machines they're often buying new parts for a number of reasons.

• Used parts aren't much of an option for brand new gear. 
• Warranty; most prefer warranty support and piece of mind after spending 2 grand or more on a system over saving a few coins. 
• Knowing the parts you're buying are in proper working order and aren't on their last leg.

You see Linus build a PC with used hardware almost every time you see a new build. They reuse all their parts.

 

I love used hardware builds, however they're pointless to make a video on. What would be the purpose? Pricing would be specific to their region, so that doesn't help many people. It's also specific to the single item, since sometimes you just happen to find insane deals.

Meh... It wouldn't be that different from what they currently do. Not to mention that since the price of used parts varies by regions, it wouldn't be that good of a video in the first place for the large majority of people who'd even be interested in this. 

At most they could just show which parts to look for when trying to build a used PC on the cheap on a select budget and what to avoid... But then you'd see those parts rise in price exponentially due to Linus's exposure of them.

Personally ive never understood the fear of buying used.

 

With paypal/debit cards its impossible to get scammed. 

 

Its pretty hard to abuse hardware on accident. 

 

Good money to be saved.

 

Personally i always look for used hardware even on high end builds. Ive had more issues with brand new parts then i have used parts.

What would be the point? SYW with unlimited budget? It wouldn't be helpful to anyone if that's what you want. They are still limited to parts sold in their area, unlike buying new when they can order from US.

I think a lot of the videos already feature used parts, LTT already do a wide variety of content.

A few week back I built a computer with parts from my 2016 and 2011 build along with a few new parts. 

The problems I ran into were different than the ones I have had with new builds so I think it would be an interesting subject.

I personally would love to see this video. I buy everything used. Just because it's a year or two old doesn't mean it can't make a good gaming computer.

The one time I bought a used GPU it failed after 6 months. 

Failing after 6 months can happen on new gear too... but then I have 2 years warranty so it's not a total loss like in my case.

Or older, lol. The 5960X I have is from 2014, and it's still faster than the 2700X I had, which was a 2018 flagship. The 1080 Ti is a... 2017 flagship GPU (had to Google the actual release date, lol), and it still puts the hurt on current gen GPUs. 980 Ti is still pretty competitive for the price it goes for, and that's from 2015 (it performs on par with a 1070/2060 or so, good OCers can go even better though).

Absolutely he should. As someone who has done hundreds of budget builds, buying used is a massive market. There's many great deals to be had out there on perfectly good hardware. There's a lot of people out there trying to buy PC's and their only option is to go the used route. You could build a solid rig for A LOT less than buying used. I was out of the PC game for a couple years because life got really, really crappy for a bit and I had to sell my PC. When life slowed down and I was able to get back into PC's I went on NewEgg and built a "budget" rig. It was going to be around $600. I ended up going on Craiglist and found a Dell XPS with an i7 4770 for $120! I also found a 560 Ti for $50. A Corsair 500W PSU for $30. And I bought a Hyper 212 Evo. All in all I ended up spending about $300 after everything I needed and I built practically the exact same PC EXCEPT I ended up with a slightly better CPU than I had looked at on NewEgg! That PC ran amazing for a couple years until a lightning strike took it out. Then I got $1,300 for it from my insurance company! I'll tell you what, PC gaming saved my life the past couple years.
