Cryorig C7

Compared to the stock cooler of the Ryzen 5 3600 how much better is the Cryorig C7 $33 ? I need to use a top blow fan so that it can also cool my VRM on my motherboard so yeah. And there's also the ID Cooling IS40X $20 is it good or bad?

not that much. but C7 is quite noisy. i have no idea abut the id cooling IS40x though.

Im with the mentaility of "IF IM NOT SURE IF ITS ENOUGH COOLING, GO OVERKILL"

GPU COOOER      : ID Cooling Frostflow 120 VGA (Stock cooler overheats even when undervolted :()

MOBO            : MSI B350m Bazooka

MEMORY          : Team Group Elite TUF DDR4 3600 Mhz CL 16
STORAGE         : Seagate Baracudda 1TB and Kingston SSD
PSU             : Thermaltake Lite power 550W (Gonna change soon as i dont trust this)
CASE            : Rakk Anyag Frost
CPU COOLER      : ID-Cooling SE 207
CASE FANS       : Mix of ID cooling fans, Corsair fans and Rakk Ounos (planned change to ID Cooling)
DISPLAY         : SpectrePro XTNS24 144hz Curved VA panel
MOUSE           : Logitech G603 Lightspeed
KEYBOARD        : Rakk Lam Ang

HEADSET         : Plantronics RIG 500HD

Kingston Hyper X Stinger

 

and a whole lot of LED everywhere(behind the monitor, behind the desk, behind the shelf of the PC mount and inside the case)

C7 is good if you replace the fan with a Noctua. Do you have a CPU cooler height limitation due to your case? Otherwise there are other downdraft coolers to consider (including the big brother of the IS-40, the IS-60), but a C7 should be sufficient for a 3600. The main advantage of 3rd party coolers vs stock is most will be quieter, and possibly run cooler CPU cooler by a few degrees.

Damn top blow coolers sure are expensive but performs nearly to a stock cooler. I might just stay to stock cooler for now and if the VRM temps are not that high I'll just switch to a normal CPU cooler that isn't top flow like ID Cooling or Deepcool

Oh i just remembered. i think wraith max is a top down cooler for about $37

What motherboard are you using? You generally don't need a lot of active airflow and a larger traditional tower cooler for lower cpu temps would still provide some airflow over the board and probably be better overall.

The C7 isn't much better than the stock cooler and the IS-40X is only slightly better.

 

Are you not satisfied with the stock cooler? What ram are you using?

Where are you shopping / located? Budget?

Gigabyte B450 ITX Aorus Pro.

The IS 40X is "slightly" better than the stock? but it's better than the C7? If it's better than the C7 I might get it. C7 costs $37 in my place while IS 40X costs $18

The motherboard heatsinks are pretty beefy and you probably don't need nearly as much active airflow as you think.

The IS-40X seems to be slightly better than the C7 but I generally wouldn't recommend it when you can fit much larger coolers in the case.

Well tbh I don't have all the parts yet. It's just that the only reason why I want a top flow cooler is to also cool the VRMs I know that might sound weird but there's already that thing where B450 VRMs are apparently shit except for some MSI boards and since I've got an ITX one (its probably a little bit worse too?) I'm pairing it with a Ryzen 5 3600 (no plans on overclocking) I've read that some people get VRM temps around 70°C and for some I know it's not that bad but for me I would probably want to keep mine at least around 50°C to 60°C. I know someone with a Ryzen 7 2700X + B450 I Aorus Pro and his VRM temps (while gaming) are only at 50°C - 55°C My thoughts are that the stock top blow fan helped cool the VRMs. I'm also thinking that since 3000 series CPUs are more "efficient" apparently I don't know if that's true or not and it consumes less power than the Ryzen 7 2700X that my friend does then my VRM temps would be better or at least near his.

Why are you so concerned about vrm temps? Are you willing to sacrifice cpu temps and potential performance for the sake of vrm temps? 

You can always use the stock cooler first and decide whether or not to replace it after seeing the results.

Just for @Tenma White

 

I always get higher VRM temps than CPU core temps. (MSI B450ITX Gaming Plus).  

 

I have two ideas which can help. I can install a top fan in my case, which would directly blow fresh air onto the VRM heatsink. 

 

And had another impulse: installing an oversized fan onto the cpu cooler heatsink (so,  140 mm fan with 120mm fastening pattern, ie AKASA VIPER R or Cryorig xt140.

 

I imagined, that the excess diametre of the fanblades would provide better airflow over the motherboards heatsink. Yet to test either of them though. I don't have the fans yet. 

Life is really challenging. I don't always suceed: )

Cause I keep seeing people saying that B450 motherboards reaching  vrm temps over even 90°C I don't know if that's even legit and I'm worried about that.

90c isn't great but it's still safe. You can see what temps are like with the stock cooler and lower fan speeds before deciding on what type of aftermarket cooler to get.

Hi guys, sorry for reviving an old threat, but i would like to add my thoughts.

 

The Cryorig C7 is the king for anyone needing absolutely the best cpu cooler which is under 56mm tall. But that noise though...

A universal fan can't be mounted to Cryorig C7 and someone might think that you are stuck with the OEM fan which is loud and somewhat insufficient. 

 

I followed this route to overcome this problem:

 

1) 3d printed adapter for universal 92mm fans (Thanks a lot thingiverse and special thanks to "theHACK")

2) Noctua NF-A9x14 HS-PWM chromax.black fan as replacement 

 

Total height of the new cooling setup is only 48mm!!! I also used "Cryorig AM4 Upgrade Kit Type C For C7" to mount it to my Ryzen 3600, since there is no AM4 fitting bracket inside the box. It perfectly fitted inside my node 202 and outperformed both noctua l9ha and stock wraith cooler. Combined with two Noiseblocker BlackSilent Fan XM-2-40mm which i zip-tied as exhaust fans, i'm idling at 36C and max temps are 64C after 3 hours of gaming with 28C room temp. And all of these inside a node 202!

 

Just my personal review for those thinking about getting a Cryorig C7. Absolutely 3d print an adapter and upgrade the fan.
