Dual or quad ram?

Hi,

Do you know if I can use X2 kits of

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/g.skill-trident-z-royal-16gb-2x8gb-ddr4-pc4-25600c14-3200mhz-dual-channel-kit-silver-f4-3200c14-my-112-gs.html

To make 32gb. As I can't find a quad kit 4x8gb in the UK at a decent price.

Will I run into any issues with X2 dual kits?

Aorus z390 master mobo

Thanks

Yes you can use 4 sticks, but you will still only have dual channel since thats all CPUs on the Z390 platform supports.

So if I purchase the 16gb kit and another kit next month I won't run into any trouble?

Hardly however do have in mind that the more sticks of memory you use the more points of possible failure you're subjected to... aesthetics aside it's usually better go with 2x16gb kits for 32gb.

Correct. i have 2 2x8 kits of Gskill Flare X in my system bought at separate times. As long as they are the identical SKU, you should have zero issues.

Just buy 2 kits.

Or you can get 4 identical modules (non kit) and it will work the same.

Ryzen 5700g @ 4.4ghz all cores | Asrock B550M Steel Legend | 3060 | 2x 16gb Micron E 2666 @ 4200mhz cl16 | 500gb WD SN750 | 12 TB HDD | Deepcool Gammax 400 w/ 2 delta 4000rpm push pull | Antec Neo Eco Zen 500w

All of the points about making the decision between having 4x8GB or 2x16GB setups has been listed, but to summarise.

If you're going to get 4 modules of 8GB and are buying the same RAM, you really shouldn't have any compatibility issues.

It also subjectively looks a lot nicer to have all 4 slots occupied, but cancels out your option to upgrade to 64GB of RAM, though I doubt you'll ever need that much even before you decide to totally upgrade your RAM anyway.

And 4 is more than 2, which means you have effectively double the chance to have a RAM stick die, but RAM is incredibly reliable, and very rarely dies.

Struggling to find my royals @3200 cl14 in the UK. Everywhere completely sold out.

But I did find the 3000 cl16 kits-

https://www.ebuyer.com/871272-g-skill-trident-z-royal-silver-2-x-8gb-3000mhz-c16-kit-f4-3000c16d-16gtrs

Would there be a noticeable difference for a 9900k? Bottlenecking etc....

It'll be marginally worse... but if you Totally want the Royal look it might be your only alternative at this point, these special memory does gets far less units manufactured... in fact if you're thinking of picking up another kit here in months you might not be able to ever again... why not spare yourself the hassle and go with the old fashion Trident Z RGB instead?
