Should i buy a second hand 1080ti or new rtx 2070 for $100 difference?

1080ti is a stronger card than a 2070. And your title does NOT state the full info we need. If the 2070 is 100$ cheaper, I would get that over the 1080ti.

RTX 2070 I say. Unless you're pushing 4k triple-A titles, I don't think 8gb will limit you compared to 11gb, and a current gen card.

yeah, I want to buy it so bad but its second hand, I'm afraid the card has been used for mining but the seller said just using it for everyday gaming for 6 hours a day with 1 year left warranty

It has one year warranty and you re still thinking of it? Mining is less stressful for a card than gaming. So mining is safer for second buy.

This is such bullshit. Mining is higher load, more of the time. How that makes it a better used purchase than a card being used for it's intended purpose, I don't know.

It all depends on how the person was running it whilst mining. And you don't buy a 1080Ti to only use at maybe 75% load do you.

It's similar to highway miles vs city miles on a car.  Gaming is a lot of variable load, mining is more of a constant load.

 

I thought 70% was an efficient load for mining, hash versus power usage and heat.

I can absolutely agree only on that phrase i quoted. It all depends(either in mining or gaming) but in most mining cases cards are undervolted. After all that's why i mentioned the warranty as well.

I suppose we can all agree this is an age old arguement that's a nightmare when buying used GPU's.

 

Taking the analogy Jstudrawa used, I like it but would also point out that over the same amount of time, a car that's used on a highway would generally have far more miles on it

You can get a 2080Ti for $999 apparently in the US.. if you live there and you’re willing to spend that kind of money, get a newer gen card. 

 

Otherwise get the 2070 and OC it (or buy a 2080 if you have the cash for it) I’m pushing just above 2ghz on my card (2025-2055mhz)

you playing at honestly the only point i see to use a 1080ti/2080 over a 2070 at 1080p is if you're aiming for >144fps at ultra settings on a demanding AAA game. the 2070 should be more than enough for 1080p gameplay.
