Does anyone have trending data to determine when we will be able to play games at 144hz in 2k, and maybe 4k?

If it is before 2020, is it too bold of a statement to say next gen consoles with be doing 144hz in 2k?

9700k/9900k +1070 ti and up can already run 2k 144, a 2080 ti is about 4k 90fps, so it'll be 2 more generations of gpus before we can run 4k 120, we don't even have monitors that support 4k/120 fully yet, they need to be updated, so around mid-late 2020 is my guess.

You can already do 2k 144hz on a pc.

With what setup and settings?

Really depends on the game, but a 1070/vega56 should be fine for most newer games at medium/high.

ALso 2k is basically the same as 1080p. 2K is 2160x1080 and 1080p is 1920x1080.

Rtx 2080 ti and 8700k. Settings is completely dependant on the game but usually a bit lower than ultra. The hit from going from high to ultra is actually insane yet the visual difference is almost imperceptible.

Given that current gen consoles still struggle at 60fps, that would be quite a bold statement.

2k isn't a terribly common resolution either, so I doubt anybody will really target 2k144 as a desired resolution and refresh rate, it's more likely that they'll go straight for 4k.

Yeah I don't think I have really seen 1440p TVs so the chances they target 1440p for consoles is basically 0. Most people just plug the console into the tv so they will jump to 4k just want they have done with TVs.

For TVs, I usually see 1366x768, 1280x720, 1920x1080, or 3840x2160.

1440p is almost strictly a PC resolution.

Considering 4K is the norm for TVs and high refresh rate 4K monitors are rare and expensive, I doubt consoles will even do high-refresh rates. Not to mention most TVs don't even accept anything other than a 60Hz input despite claiming having refresh/motion rates of 120Hz or higher.

At best I could expect Microsoft to launch the next Xbox with high refresh rate support, but I don't think most people will be willing to buy another display just to take advantage of it if they don't have one already.

Turn down some settings. Done.

Many cards can do that. Too broad of a question. Unless you don’t mind a broad asnwer.

Yeah we do. Unless you need 10 bit color you can get 4k 120 just fine. Most people don't even run 10 bit color on lesser monitors anyways. The only reason to run 10 bit color is for HDR.
