Am I An Idiot?

I love LTT, after watching for a few years, I decided that I thought I'd be a real cool kid and buy a nice 1440p 165hz monitor (The Dell S2417DG that I saw in a video). Then I started playing Rainbow Six Siege in 1440p and realized I could only get about 95 fps with the settings I wanted (PC Specs: i7-8700k,1080, 16GB 2666mhz RAM).Naturally, because I hate money, I bought a slightly larger PSU and another 1080 (used/sweet deal on eBay). When the GPU came in the mail, I immediately installed it and realized the cards were different heights and my HB Bridge wasn't going to work - 'oh well' I thought - as I purchased 2 ribbon SLI cables on Amazon.

 

Fast forward 2 days and boom! I get everything hooked up! BUT WAIT - I have to benchmark it first!

Cool results, right? Anyways I went and plugged in the ribbon cables and enabled SLI. Here were my results:

I've tried googling relentlessly, but all of the R6S SLI threads/videos are from circa 2016-2017 when you had to use Nvidia Inspector to get SLI working. Currently, there is no Rainbow Six Siege in Nvidia Inspector - it is listed as an officially supported game.

 

What am I doing wrong (or not doing)? I feel so fucking stupid.

 

Things I have done:

- Verified driver was up to date

- Verified Windows was up to date

- Slapped myself with a fish

- Restarted PC

- Disconnected second monitor

- Contacted Ubisoft support (literally 0 help)

tl;dr  'only' getting 95 fps in Rainbow Six Siege 1440p, bought a second 1080, bought SLI ribbon cables due to different gpu card heights (RIP HB BRIDGE), got DECREASED performance after enabling SLI in Nvidia Control Panel. Wtf am I doing wrong?

Rainbow Six Siege is known to scale very.... very poorly (or even worse) with SLI. Google around a bit. 

 

Some games just don't scale with SLI, period. This is one of them.

SLI does not do well in certain games, double check to make sure r6 is one of them

Sounds like poor optimization. If you love the game, sell the cards and get a better one. Im stuck with the same issue mainly because of the cpu not keep up with the frames/game.

Yea, wish a 1080ti could get 200 frames in BO4 at 1440p.

I'm sorry my friend but you should've done some research first. Rainbow 6 is a game known to have horrible SLI scaling: it's normal to see the negative scaling that you had happen. It really is that bad. You would've been better off just selling your 1080 and buying a 1080 ti/2080.

 

At this point if you want better performance I would recommend you sell the two 1080s and buy a 1080 ti or 2080. THAT would at least give you a 30% ish performance improvement

Hi

 

I have 2 GTX 1080 ti in sli. On some games it is fantastic. On others the frame rate is lower than a single card.

 

To give you an example.

Shadow of Mordor with a single 1080 ti at 3440X1440 averages 127fps. With SLI it averages 216fps. 

With Skyrim SE the frame rate Drops about 5fps with SLI. I disable the second card to play.

 

The way I see it, if I get 25% usage on the second card it is a win.

 

I don't buy cards to do SLI. The second card comes from my other computer that now has a RTX 2080 ti. 

If you have more than one gaming computer in a household it is a good idea to buy cards that are SLI compatible.  

 

With your monitor choice SLI makes sense. Not even my RTX 2080 ti could run it full out on most games,

I have a 480 xfire and it suprisingly works great with Fallout 4 or no man's sky, but it bites the dust on the witcher 3 or saints row 4, my secret is that I always use vsync so I don't get weird framerates plus my screen is only 85hz

u doubled down on a 1080 to sli i wouldn't even use that setup for 1440p 165hz even if sli worked decently, shoulda sold the 1080 and grabbed a 2080 ti.

Hmm...I thought R6 supported nVidia SLI -- or at least, those were the rumors.

Running two R-Fury's in Crossfire, and can confirm second AMD GPU does nothing, or game has no AMD Crossfire support.

Sell the 1080s and buy a 1080ti or 2080ti.  SLI is dead and broken.  You have just learned a lesson that many before you have learned.  The single fastest card you can afford is the solution.  SLI or Crossfire....never again.
