I assume you have the new drivers installed..?

Dkmenchar reacted to lani100 in Motherboard for i7 960
You have to look good for them but you can find some cheaper boards, remember x58 is the highend line of Intel so yeah it will be expensive.
Sometimes it's cheaper to buy a secondhand upgrade kit and sell the cpu that comes with it.

750 TI is a good match. For a few bucks more you can go for the GTX 960.

Yeah the lga 775 was a pretty strong platform. I'd say just buy the best card you can get within your budget. More than likely the Q9550 can handle it. It may possibly bottleneck it a bit, but I've tested around with cards on an x3360 which is basically a higher binned q9550. Every card configuration I tested(8800gtx sli, gtx280 tri-sli, gtx480 sli, and 680 sli) between the x3360 and at the time i7 970 performed nearly the same on either platform. The i7 had a slight edge, but not by more than maybe 5 fps on average.

Yea I'd say so from my X5450, at 4Ghz it's only a tad slower than a 2500K.

It might be where he live. Where I am 750ti is not much cheaper considering the big performance gap

Dkmenchar reacted to harrynowl in Best GPU for Q9550 @ 4ghz
R9 280, at 4GHz it's faster than an FX CPU and most people are fine with FX up to R9 280

@harrynowl
I will say the GTX750Ti is a nice GPU to pair with the CPU
or go for the R9 280 for the same price

Dkmenchar reacted to Tetters in Strange Smell getting out of the Tower
and when I said something got on the cables .... a cat once sprayed in an old PC of mine and when it got warm .... bugger me did it smell bad. It was all over the cables and produced a smell only ever found in the depths of the seven circles of hell ....

clean all the cables too, with a cloth soaked in alcohol, something could have got on the cables too.

yes you have the 64bit version, which effectivly halves the bandwith it has available. but its still much more powerful than the HD4600

Dkmenchar reacted to DarrenP in Boot USB Windows XP
I wouldn't run Windows 7 on 1GB of RAM that's half the minimum.
-
Dkmenchar reacted to Akolyte in Boot USB Windows XP
you could run windows 7 on that. For 3 years I only had a sempron and 2GB of memory. I survived.

If you can afford a new rig, buy a new one, check out the spoiler below. If you can't afford to buy a new rig, save your money instead of putting money into something that still won't be satisfactory.

Get the 760K, a new mobo and PSU, you should be able to get that with €400. Maybe you could use your current rig as a HTPC or small NAS.

That's what i would do.. Keep the HDD from your other build. Throw it in there. Transfer the OS too. Should be able to game well enough.
