Probably what I will do. I'm like most people and waiting on a new construction of a PC with the only piece missing being the GPU and we know how hard it is to find Nvidia cards. I'm just hoping that maybe I will have a slight chance of obtaining one.

MedicGarou got a reaction from BTGbullseye in AMD 6900xt general question
The TLDR was that was kind of my thinking.
The longer version would be... I have an i7 9700k Asus Z390 mobo and RTX 2070 super and was looking to purchase a 3080 or 3090.   IF I were to go with the 6900 xt for 999 and a Ryzen 5950x for 799 I'm at $1800 which is the retail price for the ROG Strix 3090 and with a good mobo I'd be at ~$2000 but I would actually come out ahead as I have a buyer for my mobo/cpu/gpu I'd be replacing.  The way it would work out my actual out of pocket would be less than a retail 3090 and it would be a screamer of a system.

MedicGarou got a reaction from Dedayog in When will the 3070 launch?
I would think it will be at the 9 am EST And 6 am PST like the 3080 and 3090.  Nvidia claim that they are working on their website to make it more likely for real people to get a card but I'm very skeptical that will actually happen.

I will admit I have never owned an AMD card but have good friends who have owned them and had a horrible time with AMD drivers.  I guess for the most part that has been fixed and they are pretty stable now but the issues they have and the things I've read online ..again no personal experience.. but it made me uneasy enough to not want an AMD card.. just my personal thinking on it, I'm going to stay with a 3080/3090

They've done a whole lot of double speak on this whole launch. At this point I'm going to go a little bit conspiracy theorist here and say that after the 28th when AMD has their Big Navi event and announces a release date a huge number of 3000 series cards will magically appear in stock.

The head of one of the AMD departments, can't remember his name, eluded to the fact that they won't have the same issues with stock that Nvidia did in a tweet a few weeks ago. Let me see if I can locate it

I'm a self confessed Asus fanboy. I've never had a single product from them that has disappointed me

And not only that I could see a whole revamp of NVIDIA's website to have a queue based ordering system like EVGA has in place now just before the announcement.  These companies are playing chicken with each other and we are caught in the middle

I was talking to my coworker about this and I said the same exact thing... I really hope so because I'm in need for the GPU upgrade hah

Oh absolutely. As I said I am not hurting for a new system. Just have someone that would buy what I have and take a big chunk out of a new one and lets be honest, what's more fun than building a new system 🙂

It's advisable to wait until 3rd party benchmarks are released to make calls on this.

Currently I have a Z390 board with an i7 9700k. My plan is to evaluate all aspects when the new CPU's are announced and decide whether I want to jump now on a whole new system or just go with the new GPU and upgrade processor and mobo in a year or so.  I'm not saying my 9700k isn't good but I have a friend who will buy my current system which will take a huge chunk out of a new build. Obviously I have time since I have no idea when I will find a 3000 series card.

The running answer is "Sometime in October" the more realistic answer would be .. The same day that AMD has their Big Navi press conference stock will magically appear. This whole thing has been a paper launch to get demand to the boiling point and just when the competition is set to  reveal a card with close to, the same or better performance stock will appear and take the wind out of their sales.

i want an extra 3-5% performance on the 3080 20g for under 1k, if not, 3090 it is, just waiting on more reviews, better bins, stock, before i decide on a model, the 3080 10G is a great deal though for 699.

It's going to be very interesting on the 28th when the press conference is held.  I'm picturing all kinds of 3080 and 3090 stock magically appearing.

MedicGarou got a reaction from Jason 57 in 32" 4K GAMING
Personally I don't agree at all. As with most thing YMMV but my monitor as we speak is sitting about 2 feet from my face and with the slight curve of the monitor I find it amazing for games like COD MW and Warzone. I've never found myself turning my head much at all. I guess that brings up the question why do I want to go to 4K .. The answer there is quite simple, This is the first time since I've been into gaming (30+ years now) that I have the means to go for a "flagship" system. So that's why I'm planning on an RTX 3090 and a nice 32" (or larger, was considering a smaller oled TV) 4K if I can find one. In all of my searches it appears that what I'm looking for is somewhat of a unicorn.

MedicGarou got a reaction from BTGbullseye in How long does it take to manufacture a complete graphics card now days?
Just in doing a search it appears that a typical factory will produce about 400,000 units per month with roughly 4000 of one card produced per day with an average of 3 die swaps or 12000 total cards per day. With the case of a new product that total number is reduced by 1/4 so you’re look at right now for the RTX 3080 about 1000 units per day per factory. This is where the numbers get funny because at current there are an estimated 11 factories producing PS5’s. ( I actually thought it was all made in 1 place) but one will make pcb’s one will make heat sinks, one will make cases or cooler shrouds etc etc etc. So we have to imagine that even if there are 5 factories producing a certain sku of 3080 you’re looking at about 5-10,000 per day for global distribution. The biggest holdup right now is actually getting items into the US due to restrictions from the pandemic.  Very long winded way of saying it’ll be a while before they are sitting on store shelves...
