  1. impressive little thing, however i do wish it had a tad more cpu horsepower if they ever release a "possessor module" with a rk3399 it'd be perfect
  2. Happy 2024 everyone

I don't really know when Christmas is so i'd rather congratulate now

P.s i will try to be more active next year

  3. storytime

so i bought a dirt cheap lenovo chromebook at a black friday sale in a local shop.

the thing was quite adequately powerful for my needs but was old enough not to receive any more software updates, so being the linux geek that i was i attempted to install linux on it.

removing the write protect screw and flashing a UEFI bios went smoothly but no matter what i did EVERY SINGLE LINUX DISTRO I TRIED LOCKED UP SOMEWHERE DURING THE INSTALLATION, so being the stubborn thing that i am i went a different route.

i made VM in virtualbox as close to the device as i could. installed manjaro on it, converted It's virtual drive to a dd friendly format then using a live usb i flashed the virtual drive on to the chromebooks eMMC.

and the damn thing is now working like a clock.

  4. laptop review:

so about two months ago i finally gathered enough fund to upgrade my near death laptop, initially i was eyeing a lenovo legion 5 2022 it seemed like a good overall laptop with a reasonable price tag but when i actually went to the store to buy it i found another laptop a asus fx517zr and for reasons (mainly it having better graphics and being more portable and lighter) i bought it.

and immediately after taking it home i nuked the disease off of it and installed arch on it it had only one major problem and that was sleep.

i did manage to solve it but i had to allocate 20 fuvking gigabytes of swap for it to work properly, fuc*cough* thack you microsoft.

and yeah overall it has been great except from some nvidia problem the laptop has been working up to the expectations

overall i'd say it was money well spent and i recommend you buying it

  5. This might look like a simple picture but taking this nearly destroyed my phone and exhausted me to death

Now that you mention it, I never seen one either.

They are not that many especially after all that happened in past 10 years some asus and hp models are they only ones that i've seen

      The rest are old

We need to get rid of this script just like you guys did

They changed the logo to the throwback one from the OG Linus Tech Tips days for a few weeks there to celebrate 10 years of the forum. They also did a server move for the forum that left people frustrated with how slow everything was until the new server had everything indexed and figured out optimal caching.

Those were the two biggest things in the last 4 months.

  9. the error message pretty much tells it all gaming on linux NEEDs vulkan and your gpu does not support vulkan at all
  10. i would very much like for someone to test dxvk on this card
  11. this thread got a lot more interesting and fruitful than i imagined

  12. that's not the point, sure linux doesn't have the greatest peripheral compatibility and is very niche in desktop space but how does that give a company to stop one from installing it?
