MiracleMan got a reaction from TwisTed_PoLo in Best starter Keyboard and Mouse
Just be careful if you have an unsealed wood desk, most mice leave ugly black marks without a mousepad, learned that the hard way.

Also, if you type a lot invest more in the keyboard, if you play competetive shooters you probably want to invest into a decent mouse.
Maybe get a cheap keyboard (every 5$ keyboard will do the job) and save up for a mechanical keyboard, it really adds a lot to the 'user experience' of a pc, not only for gaming.

Its funny how Nintendo is always looked at as the good guys of the gaming industry while they are pulling of stuff like this.

Brand loyalty is not that irrational, you seem to confuse it with fanboyism.
Brand loyalty builds up over time, if you have repeatedly good experience with the products and/or support of a certain brand most people tend to prefer said brand over others because they already know that they get a decent product.
We are all creatures of habit to some extend, most people won't change something if they already have something that works for them.

If you want to learn C (which is, indeed, not similar to Python) there is only one book: C Programming: A Modern Approach.
By far the best book on programming i have.

If you are new to CS just play a shitton of deathmatch, once your aim is on point you should get as high as MGE/DMG, at that point you need to learn theory (basic strats, smokes, flashes etc.)

Comparasions like this always ingore one major thing: Warrenty.
Especially if you use the PC for work having warrenty on the entire system compared to every part alone is a huge advantage if you rely on the system and is worth a lot.

MiracleMan got a reaction from KirbyTech in Leap Computing, Is cloud computing here?
99% of end-users won't benefit from cloud computing (at least not in the near future). Cloud storage is a whole different story, great for backups, but cloud computing is for businesses that don't want to invest in IT infrastructure.

MiracleMan got a reaction from MEC-777 in Free Your PC, Learn Linux, Embrace The Future
I am now using Linux (mainly Arch) exclusively for almost 1 1/2 years private and for work. I have a Win7 VM if i have no other choice which actually happens pretty fucking rarely.
Gaming on Linux is not that bad tbh, look at the SteamOS section on Steam, a ton of brilliant games. And take a look at Wine, a bit of a hassle to set up and run but if you really want to play a specific game on Linux there is always a way.

To the Linux is the future thingy: Yes and no.
Linux skills are more and more appreciated and even required in tech related job fields, and that will ofc show in private use as well. But i don't think Linux is for everyone.
What i say now is my personal opinion, Ubuntu, ElementaryOS and so on have every right to exist. Keep this in mind.
But if i see how many people use incredibly dumbed down Linux distributions, full of bloatware etc.pp I can't help myself but think that they should have probably stuck with Windows. Of course there are people who want a simple OS with mostly graphical UIs and don't want the "locked-down-ness" (i know thats not a word, but it gets the point across i guess) of Windows or OSX but from my expierience thats a rather small part.
Windows is a brilliant operating system, nobody can deny that, and if you just want a good out of the box OS with mostly flawless compatibility thats your way to go.

But I think every PC enthusiast and IT professional should seriously consider switching to Linux. If you are willing to invest a certain amount of time to getting to know the Linux kernel and different distributions and maybe learn some basic shell scripting and python (c if you want to go really deep) you basically have unlimited opportunitys with Linux.
I'm not gonna lie, especially if you are unexperienceed with scripting/programming it has a very steep learning curve and the first couple of weeks (maybe months) are going to be frustrating, but if you are sticking through that this OS is so rewarding.
I know i am geeking out a little but but lets be honest... we all do that every now and then.
I cannot explain how satisfying to use an OS is that you customized perfectly for your needs over serveral months, my workflow has skyrocketed a couple of weeks after i switched to linux.

TL;DR: If you are seriosu about IT give linux a try, at least 1 month linux exclusive, because you will hate it in the beginning for sure. But don't tell your mum to use linux, windows is perfectly fine for the average user and probably even better.

MiracleMan got a reaction from Bogica in How to take notes in college?
What works for me at university: Take notes with pen&paper and between lessons or at home you type everything nice and organized into your laptop/pc.
That way you can take notes pretty damn fast and you automatically take a look at it agian.
Because lets face it, no one can take notes on a pc as fast as with pen and paper. I am typing rather fast but formula editors and stuff are slow as fuck to use, and you can't just simply make a sketch in word.
