Robocopy will do a incremental file copy, and only copy the changed files.

But remember, having an external drive always connected, will NOT protect it from getting encrypted if the host machine is infected.

If it's only a few dozen GB's and it's that important, get yourself a descent cloud backup next to the local copies. Cloud backups have version history and are therefore (at least in theory) 100% immune to malware and ransomware. Crashplan costs $10-ish per month and has nearly unlimited version history where locally deleted files are kept (nearly) indefinitely in the cloud

That I definitely wouldn't pay upwards of $1000 for an e-ink display!

But yeah, most likely as I said connecting HDMI plus USB would work, but will require hardware tinkering, so if you're not experienced there you might want to find someone who can help you with that hands-on.

that is not really advanced knowledge, its the kind of knowledge you should either have before you start a project like this or something you learn along the way.
Soldering will be required at some point unless you manage to find special connectors and cables for everything.

Seems like it... but since there's another usb port maybe you can power it separately, would need figuring out before being sure you can use something other than the original cable

It's easy to custom wire USB, but HDMI is pretty much out of the question. There are thin flex HDMI cables but you'll still need to plug externally...

    Yes definitely

I'm speaking of flat flex HDMI cables like this

LVDS to HDMI boards exist but large, you'd need to hope it actually supports the signal the laptop is putting out, connections might be a pain,...  this is an example

It's just power/ground and 2 signals, I'd just solder 4 wires straight to PCB pads.

No idea... I mean any USB cable will do as well, and you can fins the same kind of flex cables with various plugs as for HDMI for more compactness, like https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32863661221.html

I'm not well-versed on video-editing software and it's needs. But I'd imagine from my few hours in After Effects and such that RAM speed and storage device write-speed are also very important for this, so it's good to check out what speed those are (the type too, an NVME SSD is supremely faster than a 7200rpm hard drive) in the laptop.

Someone else will be able to give you much better info but those are my thoughts

Any links of online stores in your country that sell laptops? Prefer min how many hours of battery life? Mind non-upgradable RAM?

Sounds like with such particular screen requirements, you might be better off sticking monitors in the rooms you draw in? As above, you'll struggle to find officially colour callibrated laptop screens.

yeah... not many laptops have that, and In my experience 1200-1500€ is the minimum to get sth. like this. Probably 95% of the laptops are 16:9, that's just industry standard. The Surface has afaik 3:2 screens too, but they are a) a tablet, b) dunno bout colour accuracy and c) quite expensive for what they are.
My advice would be, stick with the mb, it is not worth the cost. What's the problem with the aspect ratio? because the image is displayed with black bars left and right?

Photoshop will run fine on even a 1st gen i7, it really doesn't require much

I'd pick the 8400. It doesn't kick out much more heat than the i3 and the extra cores are always a "nice to have".
