Hello

So i have a dasung paperlike monitor that connects via usb only to a laptop, then i need to install driver and it will work as an external e-ink monitor.

I also have another dasung monitor model that connects via USB + HDMI, and need no driver. It work plug and play.

I need to replace my laptop lcd with this e-ink panel, and all the logic board that come with it. There is no space or size problem, sinze the E-ink + Board fit perfectly into the top chassis of the laptop, since it is very slim!
The problem I am facing is that normally, to make it work, I need to connect the USB + HDMI cable from the e-ink display to the laptop, and that is not really good if I want to fix the E-ink display internally to the laptop chassis, replacing the lcd!

1) How can I do an internal connection between the laptop and the eink module and board, and make it work like the internal lcd monitor, without having the USB + HDMI cable outside?

2) Can I integrate the board with the laptop and make it work, or can i attach the usb + hdmi cables from the eink to the laptop in another way, or using some other systems?

I have here a link to the Dasung Paperlike teardown where you can see the internals.[Dasung Paperlike Teardown](https://kevzettler.com/2018/02/11/dasung-paperlike-pro-teardown/)

What other ways you suggest to make a diy E-Ink laptop? May I can bypass the USB+HDMI connector and create a bridge for an internal LVDS or 30 pin cable to attach to the mobo directly?

The final result would be to make the eink work as its working right now as external monitor, but having it at the place instead of the lcd, and without any external cable or issue. This would be very easy for manufacturers, but sensitive people to led backlight and pwm like me, still a niche, and they dont care. I have to make it myself.

It's easy to custom wire USB, but HDMI is pretty much out of the question. There are thin flex HDMI cables but you'll still need to plug externally...

Since the first Paperlike monitor only plug via MicroUsb, would it be easier to do it myself?

For the 2nd Monitor, USB+HDMI, what product are you saying about? Can you link so I can check?

If the case must be "Usb internal" and "hdmi external" that would be okay. How much portion will it take?

Yes definitely

I'm speaking of flat flex HDMI cables like this

LVDS to HDMI boards exist but large, you'd need to hope it actually supports the signal the laptop is putting out, connections might be a pain,...  this is an example

I actually love the 2nd thing you proposed!

That HDMI cable would make sense!

How i can custom wire the usb, to attach to the laptop usb?

I think usb is for power and driver, while Hdmi for video signal.

For hdmi, I would need

A2 or A3 and C1 ,because eink monitor board is mini hdmi!

If i use this HDMI cable, do i need any extra converter board?

Or can i just use it as normal?

It's just power/ground and 2 signals, I'd just solder 4 wires straight to PCB pads.

No idea... I mean any USB cable will do as well, and you can fins the same kind of flex cables with various plugs as for HDMI for more compactness, like https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32863661221.html

Okay!

Still I need to attach thoose cables externally...

There is no way to attach them directly inside?

Also, could I have the HDMI cable from the EInk, ending with a mini display port instead? Would that work or I would need a converter from HDMI to mDP?

Most likely would need a converter.

For the USB wiring you can if you solder, but without it I don't see how you would...

Ok understand

so it would be like this?

from the Eink logic board I do have one cable Mini Hdmi that split into USB and HDMI 7594F8F3-B465-45B7-9AD4-92F7BFB0A29E.thumb.jpeg.1dc215230433f33b3d9b5c7a6fa36a52.jpeg

Seems like it... but since there's another usb port maybe you can power it separately, would need figuring out before being sure you can use something other than the original cable

That I definitely wouldn't pay upwards of $1000 for an e-ink display!

But yeah, most likely as I said connecting HDMI plus USB would work, but will require hardware tinkering, so if you're not experienced there you might want to find someone who can help you with that hands-on.

Sorry for being a noob, but can i see this in any video?

that is not really advanced knowledge, its the kind of knowledge you should either have before you start a project like this or something you learn along the way.

Soldering will be required at some point unless you manage to find special connectors and cables for everything.

Or could I custom the cable to make the MINI HDMI to USB C and directly connect instead of USB + HDMI

That's not happening without active electronics, so you'd have to mod something like this... https://www.amazon.com/USB-C-HDMI-Adapter-Supports-60Hz/dp/B07BS9XTRV

@Kilrah there is a way to have the mini hdmi cable input (male), giving output 2 males, usb and hdmi? All with that flat connectors?
