Hi P got a reaction from Why_Me in Working on build, AM4 or AM5 or Intel? Please help
    He's from the US

Sorry for the late reply, he did go Intel and will get a GPU some months down the road 🙂

It can be GPU accelerated, but it much prefers Intel iGPUs for that. For just learning though, either are probably fine.

I will say the main reason you see the APUs getting bad reviews is because they're generally a bad value, not because they're bad chips. They make sense for a handful of situations, but a lot of the time you're better off getting a lower end CPU and a cheap GPU instead of one of these (RX 580 and R5 7500F would be a good combo for instance, and not too much more than an 8600G and a good kit of RAM). If you're really worried about power consumption, they make more sense.

Personally, I'd go for an Intel setup here, mostly because the Intel iGPU works a lot better for Adobe stuff, it's still good enough to play LoL, and it's got a bit better upgrade path than AM4 does. Something like this would be a decent option:

Hi P reacted to xg32 in In terms of features, are NVidia GPUs far superior than AMD?
    YES.

i dont use ray tracing at all. and still dlss>fsr for 4k, but it's not like i can't use FSR, the shimmering's just quite...noticeable in some games to put it nicely,

1440p native, amd is usually a good bit stronger for the same price. my 6950xt kicks my 3080ti's ass at 1440p, probably the same for the xtx vs the 4080S.

if someone doesn't wanna deal with the 12vhpwr connector, go amd.

at the end of the day, the 4090 is the fastest gpu atm, so fast that we won't even get a titan this gen.

And just because i dont use the tensor cores for deep learning doesnt mean others don't, and AI's all the hype right now, so nvidia cards will be easier to resell for people that do.

Hi P reacted to Mark Kaine in In terms of features, are NVidia GPUs far superior than AMD?
the difference isnt as much features its usually the drivers, but yes nvidia also has more features for creativity, ai, etc and indeed the recording functions never worked well for me on amd.

imo this isnt the right question to ask somehow, you want roughly equivalent performance to nvidia on the cheap you go with amd, every other case you go with nvidia or even intel.

i have not experienced any recent AMD GPUs so take my comment with a grain of salt

but the last time i used an RX480, the "shadowplay" equivalent of AMD is absolute dogshit, it wouldnt run 90% of the time, making you miss moments in games, which is irreplaceable

Hi P reacted to emothxughts in In terms of features, are NVidia GPUs far superior than AMD?
For the same price, AMD GPUs tend to have stronger raster performance in games than NVIDIAs, while raytracing and streaming is (slightly) worse. It is why many people here recommend AMD GPUs if the only use case is gaming.

In AI & machine learning however, NVIDIA absolutely beats AMD's butt.

Hi P reacted to 8tg in In terms of features, are NVidia GPUs far superior than AMD?
The most GPU features still goes to S3/Via for having a feature set list longer than nvidias GPU history.
Do you need multichrome? Configuration free, bridgeless, chipset independent multi GPU capability scalable to 8+ gpus in a single system allowing for cooperative rendering, 16 layer Picture in Picture video, and integrated frame syncing without an SDI card?
No, you probably don’t need that. But Via didn’t care and simply kept adding features to pad the spec pamphlets for their doomed video cards.

For most people, No they dont offer much more. For more creative people, sure i can see a bit more helpful things on Nvidia cards. Other then that this seems like a rage bait trying to rile up the rabid fanbases.

If they perform the same, and often times at least some of the cards do, it comes down to what you want. Nvidia is way ahead for ray tracing performance. Given that a lot of games are now starting to really lean into it with the newer Unreal engine.

Hi P got a reaction from da na in Is using the CLI/Terminal common in the workplace?
From what I've been by working in different companies:
Generally speaking, It's common to use the CLI for basic things, stuff that you can learn on a 15 minute video Even more common, kinda "must" have if working in roles related to: Cloud, DevOps, Back-end, Sys Admin, Networks, etc
I agree, although I'd like to point out that it provides quite a huge advantage over developers who don't know how to use it

Hi P reacted to igormp in Is using the CLI/Terminal common in the workplace?
I'd say it's as common, but really depends on what kind of project you're working with. If you're building desktop apps for windows or games, I don't think it's that common.

Hi P reacted to da na in Is using the CLI/Terminal common in the workplace?
There sure are a lot of workplaces out there.
    If you're a plumber, I'd say no.

For programming, straight CLI is definitely not as common as it was in, say, the 80s. Rather than booting into a Basic ROM and writing your code like on the Commodore 64, now we have IDEs (eg Visual Studio Code) or even Notepad++ rather than just putting the code down in PowerShell or something. Not much has changed in that regard over the past 10 years though, more like 20-30.

In the broader IT field, straight CLI is still used a good deal for sysadmin tasks - whether to communicate over a serial interface with network hardware, configure a server through out-of-band management, even just pinging a device to test latency... all plain old CLI.

Hi P reacted to cmndr in How to know if a microphone has good background noise cancellation / removal?
Generally speaking, microphones are designed to record sound, which includes noise.
There might be some devices out there with built in digital signal processing that tries to parse out noise but I wouldn't worry much about this.
There's also SOME microphones which are highly directional and which only pick up noise from a certain direction (this can be good or bad depending on your set up)

If you're using it with a computer, I'd look into something like RNNoise or RTX Voice (both usable with OBS) and setting up decent high/low pass filters that'll reject sound outside of your regular voice range. This will work better than just about anything you'd find integrated into a microphone.

The other trick... really work on mic positioning. Further from the keyboard = better. Closer to your mouth = better. Also consider a "not loud" keyboard.

    ---

From a "low jankiness" perspective certain headphones with mic arrays (Sony XM5) and certain webcameras are "not bad" at parsing out background noise. The overall sound quality isn't as good with a proper microphone though. There IS value in having the software side (OBS/RTX Voice) abstracted away and not being an issue. Speaking from experience (mic issues during a interviews - my sound was great, AFTER I got it working).

Hi P reacted to Heats with Nvidia in How to know if a microphone has good background noise cancellation / removal?
Not exactly. For example shotgun microphones, which are the most directional microphones, you can get, are usually condensers. On some condenser microphones, you can even change their pickup pattern while you use them.

Hi P reacted to GuiltySpark_ in How to know if a microphone has good background noise cancellation / removal?
The only type of microphone itself with decent background noise rejection would be dynamic (as opposed to condensers). Its just an inherent part of their design.

Outside of that, its done with EQ (noise gates, etc..) or software like the aforementioned Nvidia Broadcast.

Hi P reacted to adm0n in How to know if a microphone has good background noise cancellation / removal?
It depends what you are asking.

The other people have mentioned, that you can always use software for noise cancellation. But there is another side to it. Microphones usually have a pickup pattern. An omni-directional microphone will pic up noise from everywhere, while a uni-directional mic will pic up noises from in front of it.

So based on that you can also get the one that works best for you.

Hi P reacted to Moonzy in How to know if a microphone has good background noise cancellation / removal?
im not sure if i would want my mic to do any filtering by itself
but you can use softwares like nvidia broadcast to filter out noises, if you are using nvidia card

Hi P reacted to Eigenvektor in How to know if a microphone has good background noise cancellation / removal?
There's always software solutions like RTX Voice, where the GPU is used to filter out background noise. Or, e.g. Krisp.

Hi P reacted to EphraimK in How to properly use an XLR microphone on a PC?
For the AG03 you'd need this as well:
It's just an XLR to 1/4 audio jack adapter

Hi P reacted to Heats with Nvidia in How to properly use an XLR microphone on a PC?
Yes, quite a lot. The first is, the 3.5mm input of your computer is not balanced, so its a lot more prone to electrical interference.

The other main reasons depend on the type of microphone you want to use. For example, a microphone that needs phantom power won`t work at all, because phantom power on the PC is 5V and phantom power on XLR is 48V. There are also some other differences, but lets just say, it won`t work.

The other is, the impedances and volume levels just don`t match. It might work, if you have one of the louder dynamic microphones, but in all other cases, it will not be loud enough, noisy or not work at all.

I absolutely reccomend you get a good interface. With those, you even get a decent hedphone out. And if money is the problem, get one used... Just make sure its a USB model and not firewire.

I've personally used this audio interface and it's great: https://usa.yamaha.com/products/music_production/interfaces/ag_series/ag03.html
Hook things up, mix audio, adjust audio compressors. Very simple, and it's hardware controls which I personally prefer

XLR mic with a Ghost AMP. XLR plug goes into the MIC IN on the IO Panel and the other to the mic. Should work just fine then with some volume adjustment and quality adjustment in sound control panel.

No benefit. You are just trying to regulate an already smoothed out voltage.
