IMO this is a non-story. These cards have been out for over two years and preventing sag has well known prevention options.

    Summary
no more snes emulation for your xbox! Microsoft has decided to ban any and all emulators from the xbox store front. while i haven't been able to confirm that this also extends to other emulators that aren't related to Nintendo themselves, i'd say this also would include them as well. UPDATE: other emulators non-Nintendo are affected as well
as for why Nintendo is included, a friend of  Alyanna McKenna's over at the Xbox QA team named Nintendo as a legal issue:

    Quotes

    (no-a emulation for-a you!)

    My thoughts
i'd say Nintendo is trying to crack down on easier ways to emulate their games by any "legal" means necessary. while they can't outright go after emulators themselves (thanks Bleem!), this would probably be the closest they can get. (i'd say Nintendo may try again with the play store next but I'm speculating)

Potential WAN show questions (for the mr techtips man and lukie luu)
    1. do you think that this might be a new strategy that companies will use to try and stop emulation for the average joe?
    2. do you personally think this could be effective to try and stop people from using emulators? (if so please do explain why you think so)

It’s a lot more complicated than it seems, the MS statement is regarding the long standing policy. The email to the best of my knowledge (I’m the one who Tweeted it) was based of this (given it was made prior to the latest crackdown, and it’s not just Nintendo. There is security concerns as well regarding certain permissions.

depends on the emulator and game being played.
yuzu requires the decryption keys from your switch for most games while games like mario kart 8 require you to dump the switch firmware for it to work. (link)
hell some emulators like DeSmuME work without needing the DS's firmware and BIOS but melonDS needs those in order to function.

as time goes on it will get harder and easier to play these games legally, harder because companies will design ways to require parts of their proprietary code for the game to function, and easier because emulator devs will find ways to recreate that code in a way that isn't illegal.

it's been a battle for a very long time and it's not going to go away anytime soon.

Yes, however, none of these solutions are simply "load emulator, select SD card/DVD-drive", Even on the Playstation emulator side, which has only ever used CD/DVD/BD discs, that never works (or sometimes works, but few drives work and do it, hence everyone has to rip the disc.)

At any rate, the point there is no reason why Nintendo can't sell games in perpetunity other than the cost of physically making things. There is no reason why they had to shut down the e-shop aside from the fact that the DS, 3DS, Wii and WiiU don't support 5Ghz networks or 802.11n/ac/ax etc. They top out at 802.11g on 2.4ghz and the DS only supports WEP. Why can't I just go to the eshop on my windows PC and download the ROM directly to my DS/3DS SD card?

Because they don't want to. You might share that with all your friends. Can't have that.

iTunes DRM-free tracks enters the chat. "This is not a problem."

Same with Sony. Fine, shut down the online shop the console can download, but you give me a way to download the ISO to the PS3/PS4/PS5 hard drive. Because I bought that game, and you shutting down the store is STEALING that game from me.

If you want justification for piracy, shutting down the stores IS stealing the game from people who paid for it.

Governments just seem to be getting weaker and weaker as time goes on,  I mean they don't have to be dictatorships in order to pull these companies into line, but at the moment they are literally doing nothing.   I guess they feel it is more dangerous if a toilet sign offends a persons chosen identity than it is for a data company owned by a foreign government to spy on our children.

Isn't that the whole point of having a NAS - not relying on an external factor such as google drive or other similar services?
