Seems like a really good compromise.

Just a reminder that you can have good experiences with non techies
My uncle has no time for computers. He doesn't want to know how they are run, why they run, he just wants them to go. When he heard about Windows XP support ending, he came to me and asked me for the best course of action. The obvious solution here is Windows 7, so I told him as much and he went away and did some research.
He only uses his computer for word-processing, browsing youtube, looking at photos etc etc. He has an old Dell Dimension 530 and looking at it upgrading it to a decent spec would be easy. Adding an extra 2gb of RAM would up it to 4gb, and changing out the processor from a Celeron 820 to a E6700 would nearly double his processing performance. Including Windows 7 which I found for £50, an £80 upgrade, which involves me tearing apart his computer effectively.
Fine, he says. He understands enough to trust me in making a good decision. With the upgrades and a good dust-out his PC should last him a long time. After I've finished having fun with my SLI 8500 GTs, I'll put the family PC one back in and give him the other one. Should accelerate his youtube playback a little.

The_Strict_Nein got a reaction from Wauthar in Star Citizen Refunds Pledge
I know you're talking about Kickstarter games in general, but if the 100s of video updates, 100s of community q&as, 100s of developer updates, and 100s of sneak previews/jump point runs does not prove the transparency of SC then I don't know what will convince people.

The_Strict_Nein got a reaction from Dabombinable in AMD Zen to Bring Greater than 40% IPC Increase, New Reports Suggests
Business sense doesn't mean shit if you're not covering R&D costs.
I don't think enough people understand this. Let's say developing Zen cost AMD X Dollars. AMD need to figure out how many they expect to sell. So the cost of the chip will be base cost to manufacture + (X Dollars/divided number of chips expected to sell) + a little on top as profit. This is why you get price cuts in the future when they've now covered the cost of R&D and they can start selling for just base cost + little bit on top.
EDIT: Considering how far behind AMD currently are and how much of an improvement Zen claims to be I cannot imagine the R&D costs of Zen being cheap.

The_Strict_Nein got a reaction from Dabombinable in SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket fails sea landing for the third time.
Selectively picking words that relate to something and putting them together does not a fact make.
A rocket is also Explosive. Therefore it's also an Explosive Failure, right? It failed as an explosive.
Structural Failure would be if the metal of the rocket's leg bent and snapped upon landing. In this instance the leg was fine, but a mechanical component failed to prevent the leg from locking.
Now, if the reason that mechanical component failed was because it snapped then you'd have a case for structural failure. But it wasn't. I failed due to ice preventing the mechanism from engaging. Hence, it's a mechanical failure if anything.
