memory overclocking is different to cpu overclocking. you can overclock your ram to 3600 by just enabling the xmp profile in bios.
you don't need a cooler or overclocking the cpu or anything else for that.

    Hello fellow tech enthusiasts,

Last year I built this custom PC case at my parents house for my dad to store all his maps and data for our forestry family business (and also so I have a rig to play games on when I'm at home)
I'm a student at u university, studying to be a English and it teacher in Germany. Due to my very limited income I was never able to build a awesome computer for myself, but I had the brilliant idea to talk my parents into needing one for "their maps and picture edeting ".
For years I had the dream to create a custom case made out of wood. I was never sure how to do it properly, and also how to find a designer that looked elegant, was 'pactical' and nobody had done before.
The designer I choose now, I am very happy with, and for the first PC I build, I think it is awsome.
I wanted to recreate the look of stacked wood, the tape you would find at any home with a fireplace.
The wax I achieved this was by making a frame out of 4 pliewood pieces on the top, bottom, and sides, and fine 2 metal fence squares in the front and back. The bottom wood piece has a big hole in it where I mounted one singular 250mm case fan.
On the sides I prepared bolts and spacers to mount the motherboard, before I screwed the wooden cut pieces to the side  all the way around. The front metal mesh, I spray painted white, and cut sections of of cut wood and screed them to the mesh to make it look like the wood was stacked everywhere.
The mesh can be screwed on and off with 4 screws. The back mash has no wood.
The anterior of the case is as small as I could find parts for it.
32cm of space in all directions has to be enough to install a motherboard, 16gb of ram, an i7 8700k with the biggest bequiet cooler I could find, 5tb of storage and a super tiny gtx1080.
All the parts fit perfectly, no space to give.
The hdd and ssd drives were mounted with velcro tape to the sides were there was space.

Cooling in the case is amazing. The one singular case fan pulls up air into the gpu and the rest of the case is just cooled the the massive cup cooler circulating air from front to back through the "open" case design.

One thing I wanted to achieve in this build, was having no buttons or lapels on the case for a cleaner look.
So I ran 3m extension cords for everything through a sleve from the case directly into one external wooden box that could be placed any where.
On the picture zou can see the disc drive, the power button, and connections for usb 3 and 2 as well as headphone and mic.

I'm sorry that I cant provide pictures of the build, but I did not realise I would live the PC so much that I would like to share the finished results.

For the wood I used a tree from our forest that i cut down and dried myself. The monitor is also from the same wood, where a friendly carpenter prepared the wood and I got a controller board from Ebay and a old laptop screen.

If I have the funds to hold another one of those, I think I I will provide pictures of the process, but for now  feel free to ask me anything.

JJB got a reaction from Crunchy Dragon in Intel Ice lake integrates thunderbolt onto the SOC
EGpu's have been around for a couple of years now, and different manufacturers have implemented their own interface for external graphics cards. For example, Dell has an external GPU enclosure for certain Alienware laptops. MSI has a dock that you can slot certain laptops into. However, most eGPU enclosures rely on thunderbolt  to communicate with the laptop. Up until now thunderbolt was not integrated on the CPU, resulting in severe performance penalties for the thunderbolt-based GPU enclosures. Linus showed this in the video below. The alienware enclosure has a proprietary connector delivering a 4x pci-e signal to the laptop. The razer core only has thunderbolt to the laptop.

"It's the first platform where we integrated Thunderbolt 3 natively onto the SOC" -Gregory M. Bryant (Senior VP and general manager from Intel)

The performance pentaly may soon vanish as Intel has announced Ice Lake (Sunny Cove architecture) at CES 2019, these CPU's with the sunny cove microarchitecture will integrate thunderbolt on the SOC, for increased performance. With increasingly more powerful CPU's being built into laptops, egpu's may become a good option for someone who only wants one computer to do all his/her work on.

Ice Lake in combination with a GPU enclosure the performance may be on par with a desktop equivalent.

It's useful for creating a docking station that isn't bandwidth constrained, more or less. You could also daisy chain devices together like how FireWire used to do.

It would be pretty nice to have a docking station with a midrange GPU in it, along with some other peripherals, that isn't too terribly big. Like the size of a NUC or something. Though I suppose the lack of upgradability would be an issue.

Riley and I have known each other for almost 8 years and we've worked together in some capacity for over half of that time.

He asked to review a graphics card as a total joke. That's not his forte and he's perfectly comfortable with that. Even back at NCIX Tech Tips (as he mentioned on the WAN Show today) he got Ivan's help with a lot of the benchmarking stuff. Big deal.

You also need to understand that he's not some intern who isn't sure about his job security or his skills. Evaluating gaming cards may not be one of them but who cares? That's not what he was hired to do.

Riley was brought in as a specialist for TechLinked.

Something you guys might also not realize is that Riley is perfectly comfortable dishing out his share of trolling off-camera - even if he's not sure where the limits are yet with the live audience.

If LMG was a horrible place to work and anyone actually took me seriously about this stuff, we'd probably have a little more turnover, don't you think? These are very talented people who could get a job tomorrow if they felt like it.

We tease each other, but it's part of having some fun at work instead of being all corporate.

I messaged Riley to tell him people were upset at the way he was treated on the WAN Show and to make sure he was okay and he had to go find the timestamps people were posting to see why he was supposed to be upset.

So it's probably worthwhile to try re-watching with all of that in mind..

    I don't think you'll find any laptops with an i5, 8GB and Thunderbolt 3 with $300.
With $600 you may find a used laptop with a better dedicated graphics adapter, but that likely won't run any AAA titles at 60 fps.
