neitzches-pctech reacted to LinusTech in Linus Tech Tips, Tech Quickie, Tech Linked channels hacked
Thanks for the concern everyone. We are still in recovery mode over here and working with YouTube to get everything restored. Will hopefully have a video (or at least an update on WAN Show) to share with you all ASAP, but we want to make sure we get the details right since smaller channels may rely on our experience to help harden their own security.

Hi techies,
A few weeks i posted about a PC i have build on a very tight budget it was my first post because i am sure there will be people looking at bulding budget systems thinking will my system run this ect ect
my pc specs are:

neitzches-pctech reacted to Admiral Shark in Show off your old and retro computer parts
The most 'retro' computer parts I have are a couple (4; 3 of the first type, 1 of the last type) S3 ViRGE display adapters. I believe my uncle harvested them from scrap PCs for some reason. They all work the last time I tested them (almost five years ago now). I have a lot of old DIMMs and hard drives from the '90s as well.

This is a Acorn BBC micro model b that was found in a skip outside Cambridge university, its got speech synthesis roms and other strange stuff i wonder if it was used to develop Hawkins voice, never know
I loved playing chuky egg on one on these babys it was so much faster then the Acorn electron tho
-
neitzches-pctech got a reaction from Hamface55 in Pc running slow
have you got the drives configured for raid-0 that would also speed things up loads
i would put both 1tb drives as strip raid and have a ssd to boot from
also if you install a ssd turn indexing off
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_RAID_levels#RAID_0
2x 120gb ssd raid-0 will be faster then 1x 250 gb ssd
make sure you use the fastest SATA ports as some motherboards have 2x6gb/s ports and then all others are 3gb/s check your motherboard manual
i have been told also that having the sata cables twisted can effect the speeds so as a rule i try and keep the cables flat and tidy
also this will require you to format both drives and freshly install windows and your games but you will feel the difference

neitzches-pctech reacted to dizmo in Junkyard Wars < £200 PC build
The post isn't crap but you posted it in the wrong area It should be in...I want to say Build Blogs. And there should be pictures because that makes every thread great!
Honestly, even though I could buy a new PC, I always find it more fun to go looking for killer deals on a generation old used hardware. I've only been running 1080p60 monitors anyway so it's not like my demands are that great. Love builds like these!

neitzches-pctech reacted to Digital Brit in Evolution to be taught in UK primary schools
https://humanism.org.uk/2014/09/01/evolution-now-part-english-primary-national-curriculum/
Apparently evolution will now be taught to Year 6s as opposed to waiting for Year 10 to start teaching evolution, creationism can now no longer be taught as a scientific theory in any public school around the country.
While I do think this is a great thing I was surprised it hadn't happened sooner.
Creationism has no place in a science class or any class for that matter outside those revolving around religion.

neitzches-pctech reacted to LinusTech in Welcome to the Linus Tech Tips forum!
Thanks so much for joining. My vision is a community based on positive member interaction and helping each other. I believe that if we all work together toward this goal, we will have success in the long run.
We don't have official forum rules or anything like that yet, but as long as everyone is respectful of each other, and patient with the growing pains that we are going to experience (vBulletin 5 is VERY beta right now) we can make this into an AWESOME community forum.
