I don't understand why some people think that this is such a bad thing. Is it really that bad to not want to hear racial slurs every time you want to play an online game. Not really a shocker that people don't like being called slurs. If anyone does use it they will probably just mute the person being bleeped out and just have the bleep on so they don't have to hear whatever they are saying.

Do they really? All they've done is buy something and try to flip it for profit. The worst that they deserve is nobody buying their stuff and they end up losing their money. Robbing someone is way worse than what the scalpers do. If people really want to mess with them they should just not buy from them.

I don't know how anybody thinks that actually robbing people of stuff that they paid for is justified just because they are trying to make a profit. I'm not fond of scalpers or anything but what they do really just doesn't justify being robbed. There is a reason that robbery is illegal and scalping game consoles isn't. Is a game console really worth risking someone else's life or your own over? You never know how a robbery can escalate and this could easily lead to somebody being seriously injured or even worse.

I can't believe your actually defending the people doing the robbing and don't even give a crap about the person robbed. There is nothing stopping anyone else from becoming a scalper or using the same tools they use to get a console and I'm pretty sure that robbing someone is much worse than flipping something on eBay. Like get a grip lots of people in this thread need to check themselves because in what universe do people not care that someone got robbed especially an armed robbery.

They aren't cheating people, the people who buy it from them know that they are paying more than it is worth. They are just tyring to make a profit you realize stores and restaurants sell things at a markup right?

Apparently, we should expect an imminent wave of retail stores ransacked and looted, now that we learnt that the act of buying merchandise and sell it at a higher price than you pay for it make it OK to break the law...

It's called "retailing". When you get arrested for robbing Walmart, use your call to hit me up instead of a lawyer, so we can continue this conversation

Anyone buying a product is taking away stock that someone else could have afforded. At least when we talk about goods that qualify as "rival", a key characteristics for markets to work properly.

The nature of how supply and demand works is that the identity of the traders don't matter: the equilibrium price and quantities are what they are. And if you put a constraint on quantities, then the equilibrium price is demand-determined at whatever clears the market. MSRPs obviously don't clear the market. There is no escape from the equilibrium price emerging triumphant. Even government-regulated prices only lead to black markets unless they also bring government-controlled supply to match.
There is the considerable risk of ending up with a bunch of stuff you don't need and can't find a seller for, at least not without discounting it bellow what you paid for it. You are gambling on people paying more to get less, in terms of customer service (and, potentially, warranty).
    They haven't.

You mean like, going to jail fro robbing someone?

Denying people with low income? When discussing consoles, or worse, $1000 GPUs? < removed by moderation >
If there isn't enough supply then there isn't enough supply, and there's nothing preventing anyone from getting anything other than lack of supply. All a market with fixed supplies does is allocating the existing goods. And we're not in the Soviet Union, so this is how the market allocates resources and how our entire economy works. You are free to dislike it, but you cannot blame a couple of individuals, who are actually restoring the efficiency destroyed by the manufacturers, for living in a market-capitalist society.

This just isn't it. It's not like they're scalping insulin or drinking water, this is just game consoles we're talking about. All they deserve is nobody buying from them and losing all their money. Nobody deserves to get risk being injured or dying for trying to make a profit. Maybe we should all go steal 3080s from our nearest best buys because they are trying to sell them for a profit.

Agreed. I see nothing hilarious about people being threatened with weapons and robbed. The people doing this are worse than the scalpers.

Owning a game console isn't a human right. It's not important. There is absolutely zero justification for threatening someone's life just because they decided to try and make a bit of profit over a big launch.

If you want to fight them, then just don't support them. They only exist because there's enough of a market for their practices.

Hate to say it, but it seems like some people have a distinct lack of empathy. Scalpers may be exploiting people with more money than sense, but being robbed is terrifying even if you're not present. Many people feel a deep violation that might not go away for a long time. And of course, in the current era a robbery while you are present could leave the parting "gift" of a life-changing infection.

I agree, robbing someone over a console isn't worth the risk of your life or someone elses, or risking jail time. The better solution is to not buy from scalpers at all, then the people buying up the consoles would be forced to sell them at MSRP once stores have them back in stock.

    My thoughts
Damn. This is super impressive stuff, I was skeptical about the non-native ARM performance but either Rosetta 2 is magic or these M1 chips are absolute monsters. I'm glad that the 10hour+ laptop is back to being a thing too!

Edit: GPU performance is equally as interesting. Looks like Rosetta 2 performance is just below the Nvidia 1650 and above the AMD 560X.

Edit 2: I'm also personally disappointed to see each of these new Macs only support 2 displays total so only 1 external display for the Air and Pro
