TSL got a reaction from Ben17 in How to Install Ryzen Power Plan?
Do you mean the windows power plan settings? If so, you can find it by typing "power" into windows search and find the control panel tab that can change power plan settings.

TSL reacted to Windows7ge in Using 2 power supplies
The more crude option is to use something like a paperclip to short the 24-pin's green wire to a black wire then to power on that PSU before the systems primary PSU.
A more refined option is there are adapters on the market that essentially daisychain the 24-pin of a 2nd PSU onto the first which would make the 2nd turn on with the first.
A 3rd option would be to make your own adapter to do what option two would do.

You need to either wire them yourself or buy an adapter that will start up both PSUs at the same time.

TSL reacted to brob in New Workstation Build Help
If one is sticking with stock settings a 550W psu would be fine for an i9-9900K. I'd want more capacity for overclocking, especially if one is going to loosen the power limits.
Asus has an excellent BIOS.
Other sites have expressed concerns with some of the power protections.

Just don't get a Gigabyte Ryzen board, I've heard horror stories about those.

TSL reacted to Stefan Payne in New Workstation Build Help
You want the Radeon 7 for that instead because of 16GiB VRAM:
Those Videos might be very interesting to you.
As for the Rest: What is in use right now?
Is it possible to wait for the CPU? Because its said that on 27th May the 7nm Ryzen is released, wich might be a good choice for lower price.
The only thing we know is that the CPU presented earlier this year consumes roughly half the power of the 9900K.

TSL got a reaction from Casual Cube in How Noticeable is Screen tearing with lower fps to Hz?
144Hz, below 100 FPS is when it really begins to look like a slideshow but it also depends on what game you're playing and what is going on on screen to notice.

TSL got a reaction from AlphonseK in Future build to aspire to.
AMD CPU will be a must if the rumours hold up and they keep their core counts high (But who knows, Intel may get more price competitive next year). HEDT platform with lots of memory would really benefit your work and not affect gaming but given the budget why not.
If you really want silence then look at some twin stack tower coolers. They'll off very good cooling performance at lower noise levels. An AIO is an option if you don't like maintenance but from experience they're kinda loud without correct configuration (and even then they're nothing to write home about) and also the stock fans suck assssss.
I don't have any experience with open loops but they can be silent and very high performing, but add tremendous cost and if you're not really into it, it's going to more of a hassle than a hobby. SLI is just a bad idea. Limited support and not cost effective (regardless of budget).
If you don't need the extra horsepower for higher res/frame rate then just stick with the one card and if you do eventually then there might be some killer cards from both the green and red teams next year (but definitely keep an eye on AMD as their roadmap is lighting up).
Bit hard to make a PCPP list with hypothetical and not confirmed parts but you're looking in the ball park of:
- HEDT CPU, 16 cores, high clockspeed etc etc: $550-750
- Tower Cooler: $80-100
- Supporting motherboard: $250-350
- 32GB RAM: $250-300
- Fast M.2 Boot drive (maybe raid?) + another large storage M.2/SSD/HDD drive: $150-300
- Current GPU (no cost) or a new gen one: $550
- 650-850w decent PSU: $70-100
- Decent case for your needs: $100-150
-Total: $2000-2600 (No GPU: $1500-2050)
These are all very rough estimates but I'm just trying to help get ya in the ball park.

TSL reacted to Labeled in Future build to aspire to.
new hardware will be out by then probably. So there's not really much to aspire to until you know what it is.
I'd argue against SLI. It doesn't scale with every game and adds other issues.

TSL got a reaction from kirashi in Should i choose ip 7 or 6s?
Negligible difference. If you like a headphone jack and a mechanical home button - 6s. If you don't need a headphone jack and prefer longevity of your home button - 7.

TSL got a reaction from Taf the Ghost in What upgrades?
A Ryzen based system with 16GB of RAM would be a very nice upgrade. Throw in an SSD and your system should be bangin'!

TSL reacted to corrado33 in Are graphic cards "Region Specific"
It will work fine.
Graphics cards are NOT region specific. The GTX 1060 6gb usually has a 6 pin power connector (I think... may be 8 pin)

A perfect example of his brand of trolling.

TSL reacted to LinusTech in August 31 2018 - WAN Show Document
Riley and I have known each other for almost 8 years and we've worked together in some capacity for over half of that time.
He asked to review a graphics card as a total joke. That's not his forte and he's perfectly comfortable with that. Even back at NCIX Tech Tips (as he mentioned on the WAN Show today) he got Ivan's help with a lot of the benchmarking stuff. Big deal.
You also need to understand that he's not some intern who isn't sure about his job security or his skills. Evaluating gaming cards may not be one of them but who cares? That's not what he was hired to do.
Riley was brought in as a specialist for TechLinked.
Something you guys might also not realize is that Riley is perfectly comfortable dishing out his share of trolling off-camera - even if he's not sure where the limits are yet with the live audience.
If LMG was a horrible place to work and anyone actually took me seriously about this stuff, we'd probably have a little more turnover, don't you think? These are very talented people who could get a job tomorrow if they felt like it.
We tease each other, but it's part of having some fun at work instead of being all corporate.
I messaged Riley to tell him people were upset at the way he was treated on the WAN Show and to make sure he was okay and he had to go find the timestamps people were posting to see why he was supposed to be upset.
So it's probably worthwhile to try re-watching with all of that in mind..

Just checking into this since I got a PM that was concerned we were trying to conceal the Dbrand product placement and that was worried about us running afoul of sponsorship disclosure laws. Here's what I had to say about Switch Girl in response:
Clearly we were wrong in the sense that people didn't think it was funny.
Swing and a miss...

I Looked at both, and those look better. I have the EVGA 500w PSU already which is why I didn't put a price next to it, but I can use it in a home theater PC. It's okay to make recommendations I guess, I had my choices because of my budget.
I also read somewhere the 1700x is more configurable in the BIOS of that board and can be overclocked, but 10$ saved it 10$ I can use on something else.

TSL got a reaction from AskTJ in New Build pt 2
No personal experience, but full custom is never good value for the performance. However if you're into PC building and love the look of a custom loop, it is the logical option as long as you are not sacrificing any parts like CPU, GPU etc to get the loop.
