LoboTechnician reacted to McGherkin in Has your view of LTT or Linus changed?
I have to say that the way Linus handled, and continues to handle, this has been terrible. The constant jabs at GN have been quite pathetic, frankly. All they did is call you out with facts, that’s their job and that’s what they said they’d do. I doubt the original video was even particularly personal. It’s a shame because Linus’s takes on random topics on WAN are generally pretty fun to listen to, but he definitely has gone down in my estimations.

I’d like to say that LMG as a whole though I want to give the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully Terren has laid down the law and it does seem like the others at the head of the table understand what upset the community and how to fix it. Time will tell, but the responses to the issues brought up by GN’s video seem to be the right ones.

What still hasn’t been addressed is the Madison allegations. I don’t know how that’s going to play out but I think that’s going to be my biggest influence on whether I still support LMG.

My god, why are they Digging up old bones/skeletons, Do they really think such a smear campaign will sway people to jump ship?

Not forgetting, What does Samsung allow for years that Apple doesn't allow.... I can think of 2 Major things: SIDELOADING, Heck even 3rd party payment methods are a major thing on "Samsung" aka ANDROID devices.

So in my opinion they can only start complaining when they give a update for ALL Iphones, no matter what the age, to allow sideloading and "FULL 3rd party payment methods without charging a fee" on any device, no matter its age or generation.

I spent the better part of 16 years in the salt mines of IT support.  All the way up from tier1 to sysadmin/tier2 and now just exiting tier3/ops support all together. I started with only a hobbyists knowledge of computers and part time jobs at computer shops.

If you aren't cut out for IT support work, you'll know pretty quick.  Most new people burn out in a year or two from dealing with users and their problems.
90% of dealing with users is trying to figure out what they mean vs what they say.  Remote desktop tools will save your sanity in this regard.

Google/youtube will teach you everything you need/want to know.  Have the boss let you have an IT bench/lab to learn hands on.

Above all else,  have a sound exit strategy.  IT support work will turn you into a miserable old curmudgeon like me in no time.

It might be miscommunication on OP's part.
My guess is that OP works at a franchise that is a Fortune 500 company, or some branch office, and that particular office does not have an on-site IT staff.

For example your local McDonald's is a "Fortune 500 company" but might not have a dedicated IT department in every single restaurant, yet they have an "IT guy" that does things like restart the PC when it crashes, or knows where the cash register should be connected. That sort of thing.

It is amazing how may office people know nothing about computers. then the person who knows that there is a RAM module and a CPU will look like a knowledgeable person compared to everyone else

Now they may say it is OK that you don't have the knowledge. But once the entire network is down and no one can work for an hour (or a day?), they all will curse your name. Unless you are knowledgeable, you should not taken this responsibility. Or a ransomware attack will cost your company millions, and everyone will ask you why you didn't prevent that.

Honestly, push back against being the IT guy if you don't know about it. If they insist, then get very detailed job description in writing and reiterate that you are doing this against better judgement. A fortune 500 company should not be relying on un uneducated (in regards to IT) person to lead the IT stuff.

I've watched the Act Man on and off for a while now, his content is informative and pretty entertaining, sad to se him going through this. I doubt Quantum has any direct involvement with Act Man's demonetization, but there is one thing he does seem to know how to do, and thats cover his ass. Probably one of the main reasons he hasn't been banned, demonetized, or targeted by YT directly; he knows how to manipulate the system.

There are a few reasons why I think Act Man was targeted by YT instead of Quantum, multiple have already been stated, like YT trying to avoid a possible larger "racism" fiasco; based on what I've noticed the guy is petty enough to take it that far. Though I think the main reason is as the old saying goes, "you never bite the hand that feeds you." Act Man thought that if he put the evidence out there and got YT's attention by calling them out, they would do the right thing. Unfortunately he miscalculated, and painted a target on his own back instead

Been watching The Act Man for a while now because his game reviews / critique are usually top notch. I really am not a fan of drama and shit like that and only got wind of whats going on with his channel today. I saw the video that was taken down a few days ago and it was very much internet drama at its best but somehow it was entertaining enough for me to watch it all. I can say the reason it was taken down is straight up ridiculous. Everything that happened after that looks even more ridiculous imo.
Apparently even other creators videos that cover whats going on are affected now.

To me the whole thing is very bizarre.

I won't push my friends to jump into something that might be a hidden whirlpool of death, especially when they and/or i don't have enough lifeline to save them if shit hit the fan.

Good ol drama lore for those not following the situation: So a youtuber named Act Man made a video making fun of elden ring players making terrible reviews/takes relating to the game. One of the players in that video was QuantamTV and he didn't like what he said and believe that his copyrighted content was stolen, so he copyright striked him (which afaik got removed by YT themselves, which prompted a video response from Act man.

Things in the drama apparently took the turn for the worst when allegedly when Quantam threatened or harrassed his mother by calling her over the phone. Reasons for this call was apparently wanting to talk to act man personally and from the sound of it, issue a cease and desist to him likely. Eventually, Act man and the other detractors state bring up stuff from his twitter and his other online accounts of his wrongdoing including homophobic tweets that could get him banned off YT (due to their "external websites" rule). They also alleged that he is also been ban evading since his last account was banned/close to being banned.

QuantamTV on YT has clapped back with many responses to these allegations like this one, and that one, receiving mostly negative attention (like to dislike ratio lul). Eventually Act Man gave an update stating that even after reporting Quantam for his behavior, YT has not punished him and saw nothing wrong with what he did. Eventually The Act Man made a video responding to this certain situation, which eventually got flagged down for "sexually explicit content". To make matters worst, right after this YT also decided to remove his partnership (located on his post below the "demonetize one) and fully demonetized his channel.

My opinion? I find this entertaining but not really surprising since YT is known to not enforce their TOS (as shown recently in the Google VS Australia case). I don't have faith that anything is going to change from this other than from act man's side. It is also possible that this might go to court (which I don't personally think it's worth it). If Youtube is not going to follow or enforce their rules, then they should be changed at least.

Is a long story, most of the videos are up on YouTube, well Quantum TV deleted his stuff across multiple platforms. It started a couple months ago.

Am I allowed to link to the YouTube videos?

Basically Quantum TV had a bad hot Elden Ring take, that's the start. A smaller YT channel by a 16 year old kid criticized that hot take.  QTV came for the kid. This is the start.

Other creators decided to them talk about this and support the fair use, including The Act Man. Full Streisand effect.

I haven't watched these necessarily, I can't keep up with the creators talking about this
    https://youtube.com/c/McNylo
    https://youtube.com/c/OptimusHD

Things just kept escalating, to the point where Quantum TV got called the Act Man's mother less than an hour after one of The Act Man's videos went up. Doxing and threatening The Act Man and his family is how far this guy who YouTube is supporting, went.

YT has decided while the videos were indeed fair use, the the DMCA flags were a fair request and not copyright abuse. Basically giving free pass, as long as you delete everything before YouTube looks into it, even if the barest of investigation would reveal otherwise. Basically everyone calling out QTV, let him cover his tracks, just enough.

I'd link you to this video of Act Man's continued Ace Attorney parody, The Dark Ages of Youtube, but it has been flagged for nudity and sexual content that it did not contain, not age restricted like far more egregious content that isn't calling out YouTube for ignoring its own rules.

The Act Man is being removed as a YouTube partner program for calling out YouTube in the not nudity nor sex video which actually shows clips of YouTube terms of service juxtaposed with QTV violating said terms of service.

I was interested in this community's take first and foremost on how YouTube ended this man's career for speaking out against YouTube.

This community's take on how on YouTube copyright abuse, report, ToS can be violated, without repurcussion.

I was curious whether most were just unaware, had different takes, etc.

It's crazy to me that The Act Man has basically been deplatformed from YouTube, while a hateful, lying, doxing, family threatening, ToS violating, copyright abuser, report abuser, ban evader, whose whole use of the platform seems to be attacking other creators, silencing any critics of his hot takes, scams, spreading his hate and conspiracy theories is having the last laugh. It's already scary how far this guy will go, it makes me wonder who he'll target next and how much further he'll go.

I guess The Act Man called YouTube out too loudly.

I get both sides are a bit low brow for LMG, but just because something is messy, doesn't mean it's ok and it's not good for YT creators across the board.
It now actually bothers me this doesn't get a mention on Tech Linked or something. Maybe there are legal ramifications or LMG is afraid of YT, idk.

    Edit
Nevermind downvote brigading, YT just greenlit false report brigading on its platform.

LoboTechnician reacted to Pixelfie in Upgrading my Graphics Card from RX 580 to RX 6600, good choice?
Yeah, just try playing the games and see if it will be playable. Most of these games are still recent, so they are still improved with driver updates. For example halo was like 30fps at 1080p low, now after updates the 580 can do ~60fps 1080p high. The only old game is Apex, but even that received more performance in a recent update (they improved performance for DX11 in the latest driver and Apex has one of the biggest improvements). So if you see somewhere that it won't be smooth, just try it because of recent improvements in the AMD driver. If it's not playable you can see if you want to upgrade or not.
