for file server use you might want to run Linux... just because Linux won't reboot your pc without your permission like Windows does. i don't think anyone wants a file server to restart on it's own...

ok. set it to boot linux, then once you're in Linux run in terminal: sudo update-grub
that will add windows to the grub menu and then you can pick which OS you want to boot to.

Try to connect the bare minimum like 1 ram stick, only the OS drive etc.

i have a macbook with me, which is my main machine, and a HP EliteBook that's dual booted with Windows and Ubuntu. i use that for when i need Linux or Windows apps. and because it's an old business laptops it still has vga which is handy for when i need to do a presentation or something.

so i really like old pro laptops. those bulky machines that have all the I/O you could want and decent specs. no over the top gamer looks or a massive gpu, just the stuff you need to get work done.
however i look up hp elitebooks for fun and all i found were these thin machines... like what?
i kinda blame Apple for this, they made the Pro machines not pro at all...

yeah spotlight in macOS is so much better than Windows 10's search... i just don't bother searching for stuff in Windows 10 anymore because often it's just a waste of time because manually opening the file is faster than having the search fail...

i wasn't talking about iOS. i do have an iPhone but yeah i don't care about that. i have it because the 1 or 2 years of support you get with most android phones is inexcusable for me because i can do 2+ years with a phone.
my point was that for me as a tech-savvy user macOS can do a lot for me.
