The HD5xx series is not known for their tight clamp, which suggests to me you might want to look at a suspension-type headband instead.  Try the HE-350, Massdrop has them permanently now so it shouldnt be hard to get.

If the main use of these cans is for monitoring audio, yes. They're the best monitoring headphones in their price range.

I watch him cause he's entertaining, there are kernels of truth within his videos, but most of it is just masked by the gigantic amount of subjectivity in his testing.  
 
His lists are generally alright, I completely disagree with many of the descriptions he puts on them though.

Honestly it's not newbies asking if they need an amp/dac that annoys me.  It's people who recommend them despite being a waste of money for the headphones that the newbie is asking about.

Yes, usually the manufacturer will just grab two transducers off the shelf, smack them together, and sell it as a finished product.  Don't get the wrong idea though, all the transducers are similar, just some are more similar to a certain subset than others.

You already know of a product that does this exact same thing. The Vanatoo T1 uses a direct digital Class D amp.

AT technically discontinued it, but it's still being sold in stores.  I don't think having a smaller soundstage should deter anyone from a headphone.  Yes having a big one is nice, but lots of headphones have big soundstages but no instrument seperation to back it up.  The 1000x/2000x do instrument seperation much better than their China-made siblings. 
 
They haven't said anything about a replacement yet though (fuck you AT for revealing stupid shit during CES), the only issue I have with the current line is that changing the pads is like asking to be murdered by treble.
 
If you do not like the smaller soundstage though, you could look at something like the K7XX.

I mean you said it yourself.  Glasses prevent a full seal.  I'd say the best isolating IEM I know of is the Etymotic ER4, just because they go really deep in the ear.  However, any BA driver IEM will isolate well as long it does not have a bass port.  

Chinese Hi-Fi.  SMSL, Fiio, LittleDot fit in this category.
