I have used elementary OS. It is very simple to use and fast. Should be a good choice. Using linux is not as hard as people make it out to be, don't worry.

Your decision to go for a good headphone + modmic is great. Then you have a lot of options and don't have to pay the extra "gaming" headet premium. Considering the modmc can be had for ~$50, you could get:

Sennheiser HD558 - Good flat sound. Open-back design so you get a good soudstage too. This is my daily driver.
ATH-m50x - closed back design, so you won't get the soundstage, but great sound. Has a bit more bass than the 558s
DT 990 pro - Very similar to 558s but a tad more bright I feel.

Honestly, it's hard to pick the differences between these headphones without trying them side-by-side. But I'm sure you would be happy with these.

Skill-testing question required to claim the prize. Rules are subject to change/clarification, but I'll send out a bulletin if anything happens.

Contest closes February 28th with the prizes shipping out before the end of March.

Fuck this video its so wrong.
My computer doesn't have onboard audio so it can't be better than a sound card.

I'm not going to read all 9 pages, but I can guess from the first post it's a kid who's mad about his poor purchase of a soundcard.

    http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/

His intention wasn't to make money and all of Tyler's points practically stand from there.

Don't worry we're all butthurt when we realize we have done something wrong.

QFT   Edit: I skimmed the 9 pages and I can't wait for my optometrist appointment, because my eyes bled far too much for the health of them. Head-fi is cool and all, but you're going to get a load of opinions from there that you can find everywhere! OP probably doesn't hear a difference from FLAC and high bit-rate MP3 or even low bit-rate MP3, but just decides to hear a difference. What I really don't understand is everyone here saying that they have an audible improvement by using a sound card using terminology that I'm sure they wouldn't of been able to use if Linus or whoever never used beforehand.   @AraSarkisyan: " Head on over to head-fi if you want some actual audio advice. " -> http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/07/banned-at-head-fi.html Fix it to " Head on over to head-fi if you want some opinions. " Also go take your opinions and share it with 4chan or something at least they'll call you names and feed the troll(you).   PSA: Spending money on audio equipment does not automatically make you a audio engineer.

I don't really get why the OUYA 1 got so much flack. My guess is that the thought process of people went something along these lines:

Person: OUYA seems amazing! I can play a bunch of Android games on my big screen TV!
    *OUYA arrives*
Person: What the hell is this? It's just a bunch of Android games on my TV...

    What did people expect?

EDIT: SELL YOUR BITCOINS BEFORE THEY'RE WORTH LIKE $300 EACH.

I just want to post these three images and speculate on the possibility of the moment not being a good time to jump the bitcoin bandwagon.
Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of bitcoin as much as the rest of you but looking at these graphs and putting two and two together has led me to believe that now looks like the worst possible time to invest in BTC.

So what do you guys think? Do you agree? Disagree? Up until this point i've been skeptical of the "Bitcoin Bubble" claims but now it's starting to look like a possibility.

EDIT: Just for clarification, the first two images are the bitcoin valuation at various time scales pulled from http://bitcoinity.org/markets, while the third image is the typical "bubble".

pravarth reacted to RuecanOnRails in Litecoin Mining Pool Invites: Spread The Hashes
With the recent hype surrounding Litecoin, a lot of new miners and a lot more hashing power has been added to the network.
While the enthusiasm is great, the distribution of Hashing power is not looking to good. It's important to prevent one pool from acquiring a large % of the network.

You can view estimates of each known pool and their respective amount of the network.

A lot of new comers are joining up with WeMineLTC due to them being a large pool with a nice feature set. The amount which they are ahead of other pools is a bit concerning. Reaching over 30% of the network recently. if a bad actor were to launch an attack using that pool. There was a forum post regarding this same issue a week ago. I am bringing this up again as it continues to need attention. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/84312-psa-try-and-use-other-mining-pools-in-place-of-wwwwemineltccom-they-are-near-25-of-the-network-hash-rate/

To help divide the hashrate at least on this forum, I have a few dozen invites readily available for https://www.liteguardian.com/secure/ An Invite only pool. Liteguardian is a low fee 2% PPS pool great for part time and full time miners alike.
If you would like an invite, I will require an email address to send the invite to. Please send me a PM with an email. Don't expose your email in public forums unless you like to be target of spam bots hehe.

    I use https://www.liteguardian.com/secure/
It's worked well for me for the few months I've been on it. They are invite only, if you would like to join send me a PM with your email and I can send you an invite. It's a low fee PPS pool which is great for lower hashrates, mining at random times, and a steady payout.

You can view a pie chart of the various Litecoin pools to help you decide which one to join.
