What <$200 headset should I buy?

Jaquavius

Ok, so I first of all I wanted a really good mic and so I compared:

headset + modmic

Sennheiser G4me Zero

Beyerdynamic MMX 300

...and I thought based on all the tests online, that the modmic sounded the best. Tell me if you feel differently.

This means that I want the best headset or even gaming headset without a mic. It should be over-ear. Thanks :)

EDIT: The budget is a little bit flexible, if you feel something that is above $200 is very good value and sound, I might get it.

The 558's and a modmic will mostly likely suit you.

The time you enjoy wasting, is not wasted time.

Your decision to go for a good headphone + modmic is great. Then you have a lot of options and don't have to pay the extra "gaming" headet premium. Considering the modmc can be had for ~$50, you could get:

Sennheiser HD558 - Good flat sound. Open-back design so you get a good soudstage too. This is my daily driver.

ATH-m50x - closed back design, so you won't get the soundstage, but great sound. Has a bit more bass than the 558s

DT 990 pro - Very similar to 558s but a tad more bright I feel.

Honestly, it's hard to pick the differences between these headphones without trying them side-by-side. But I'm sure you would be happy with these.

Personally I find it hard to pinpoint enemies with Sennheisers :(

Prioritizing music with good bass response (Closed/Bassy)
Audio-Technica ATH-M50 (non X) $140
Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro $175

Prioritizing better sound stage and identifying enemy positions (Open / less bass than closed)
Audio-Technica ATH-AD900X $170
Beyerdynamic DT-990-Pro-250 (may need amp) $170

Supposedly this new set has a decent sound stage as well as bass response
AKG K553 Pro $200
