Honestly, these two guys are killing my, and many others, enjoyment of LTT.

Riley knows nothing about tech. He demonstrates this again and again with his apperances on the main channel. He knows absolutely nothing about PCs, and I've no idea what he is supposed to add to the channel, other than being really irritating. He's not funny. He doesn't know what he's talking about. So why did you hire him? Oh yeah, nepitism. Brilliant.

James is just a child. I mean what he is 35? And he acts like he's 15. It's utterly pathetic. HE is utterly pathetic The guy is just an irritating little sh*t, whom ruins every single video he is involved with. The guy is an utter embarrassment to the channel.

Whomever is in charge of new hires, needs to to take a serious look at themselves, because they are failing massively.

Taja reacted to Sauron in Is there gender inequality in IT or cyber security?
    Yes, it's true.
It's hard to measure something like that and it would depend on the company, but the statistics seem to indicate that it is - the sex distribution in IT management positions is lower for women than that in the IT industry in general. Google, for instance, has a workforce consisting of about 30% women, but only about 20% of management positions are held by women (though not everyone who works at google is a computer scientist or engineer, so IT specific data may vary).
Apparently, only 12% of engineers at google are female.

    Stats I referenced: https://www.techrepublic.com/article/the-state-of-women-in-technology-15-data-points-you-should-know/
it's an article from 2014, so current numbers may vary slightly. I think it still offers a good overview.

In the CS classes I followed and in all universities I've been to, the number of girls has been drastically inferior to the number of guys, though the ratio seems to become a bit better when you get to the doctorate stage. In my first year of university, studying IT Engineering, out of 120 students only 10 were female. I'm in Germany for an Erasmus at the moment and I have only seen a couple of girls in classes of 50+ people, so clearly it's not a situation that is limited to my local area.

As for why this is, in my opinion it has a lot to do with the stereotypes about computer science; girls are taught that it's a "boys' thing" and most media tends to show computer scientists as asocial and insufferable men who often exhibit some degree of misogyny. Even things like computer games, which are many people's first gateway into CS, are very often disproportionally marketed towards males even though girls can have just as much fun with them - as a kid I had some great mario kart races with my sister though she later lost interest, probably because of social expectations. Since you're a woman you probably experienced at least some of this growing up, though you may not have given it much weight.

With that said, I wouldn't let that discourage me if I were you; CS is a varied field and there are definitely plenty of opportunities to shine, even as a woman.

Taja reacted to Spotty in Crazy customer story #1 - Computer Repair Shop
4 hours is a lot of time for just a RAM swap... But to be fair to OP you have to include time spent testing the performance initially, installing diagnostic software, diagnosing the problem, probably doing a virus scan as well (lots of PC repair places will include this in their services, and a deep scan can take a while), swapping the RAM, cable management (even though it wasn't asked for), then testing the performance after to ensure it works as intended, and cleaning up any software that was installed afterwards. Could easily add up to 4 hours service. Though, this time should be expected and accounted for by any halfway decent PC repair business when they take a system in to diagnose a problem, and it should be accounted for in the initial cost of the service/diagnosis of the system.

Personally I can't wait to see what happens in Crazy Customer Story #2.
"A customer brought in their broken laptop and asked us to fix it, the HDD inside it was dead, so we sold them a $3000 iMac Pro on a payment plan with 30% interest rates, and when they couldn't make the payments we broke their legs. It was hilarious!"

Taja reacted to EldritchMoose in Free Speech and Censorship
Free speech as a legal concept ONLY pertains to the government's ability to arrest a citizen based solely on what that citizen has said.

That's where it ends. It does not mean that you are protected if your speech happens to also break another law. For instance, you can (and probably will) be arrested if you walk into a store with a gun and loudly declare that you think that everyone inside should be shot. There are laws against threatening and likewise, there are laws against discrimination and hate speech. Unfortunately, those laws tend to create a gray area where it's up to a judge to decide which law carries more weight in said situation.

As soon as you start talking about privately-owned platforms like forums, social media, regular media, in-game chat, etc. you're no longer talking about "freedom of speech"as a constitutionally-protected right. Not to mention the gray area you enter when you start considering which constitution applies to said platform.

For what it's worth, I think we, as a society, can do well to take a chill pill and start self-policing more. In an ideal situation, we should be able to counter unwanted speech with our own speech, but we don't live in an deal situation. I'm a firm believer in "do no harm but take no shit" by which I mean that free speech is a wonderful thing until it harms entire groups of people.

There is a big difference between disagreement and discrimination, and I think that too many people fall into the trap that entire groups will always be held accountable for the actions of individuals within them.

That's the problem. People still think that every discussion should boil down to "us" versus "them"

Also, "permanently silencing" is the definition of censorship.

WRONG. By definition, its not teft. Is it immoral? maybe, in LOTS of ocasions. but it is not, and it will NEVER be TEFT. Teft is taking something, when you take a candy the owner of the candy will lose the sale AND the candy. when pirating the owner of the IP is only losing the sale (at most, because a lot of people that pirate games end up buying them) EDIT: Teft in this context would be stealing the rights, just like it happened to TheFatRat song "The Calling" some time ago.

Also, pirating sometimes can be positive. how? well, simple. Here in Brazil, a new game costs 1/4 of the minimum monthly wage. Not a lot of ppl can or want to pay that much for a game, so they end up pirating it and BECAUSE they played the game and loved it, they pay for it later in a sale (I do that all the time).

Before spotify and netflix, here we couldnt access a ton of content (either it was literally unavailable or behind a paywall that made it available only for the 1%) so pirating became the norm. So much that it is not illegal to pirate content here, not really. Unless you are an institution pirating software or something, you can and will pirate music, movies and games all the time. Nowadays I only pirate what I cant get it from netflix and spotify, which are services that showed how to properly kill/reduce piracy.

When a game from a reputable dev launches, I pay for it WITH PLEASURE. CDPR, Larian Studios, DontNod... they make good games, dont fuck the consumer and most times the prices are VERY compatible - thats how you fight piracy, not be saying "oh this is immoral and if you do it you are a bad person"

Taja got a reaction from Origami Cactus in Any really good PC games recommendations?
    Couldnt disagree more.

The game is excelent, gives a ton of freedom and the story is really engaging. It is an old game and that shows, its not perfect for sure, but it is considered by many the best fallout game. I played fo3,fo4 and NV and every one of them is good in its own way.

So I guess its obvious that I recommend NV, but my top recommendations (lets keep it short) are:

Divinity Original Sin 2: Its a turn based rpg, the combat is AMAZING, the story is insanely good and you have A TON of freedom. Its really hard to find flaws in this game, its just a bit hard to learn at first.

The Witcher 3. What can I say? Its one of the best games ever made. Its a must, unless the game is really not your style.

That's not how it works, from what I can see. You're commenting over on Dissenter on their platform, no one here would see it and likely wouldn't care either. I don't care about what people say on twitter or facebook as I don't use either, if I did I wouldn't care either unless the comments were directed to me about me then I exercise my right of reply.

People on the internet can rant about whatever they like it doesn't effect me, not unless they come to my house and yell at me directly. That's the trick to the internet, you can actually ignore people. I do however believe that moderation is required and situations of law breaking, incites to violence etc be dealt with as necessary, I also have zero time for the 'slippery slope' argument. Because again if you're not happy with how moderation is being done, you can move on.

Most people have reasonable common sense, can identify actual problematic issues and sort out situations with proper care. There just needs to be less bending over to the loud minority and trusting your own judgement.

Also this isn't really tech news so it's likely going to be moved to general discussion. I would move it myself but I wanted to comment on this topic.

I'll give you a hint: those are all your opinions and they don't matter. The vast majority of gamers clearly do find the quests interesting and the story a great one to go through. Also, like I said, the way you completely ignore all nuance in the game just makes you look like a moron and I won't bother wasting any more of my time on you after this reply.

Taja reacted to Lathlaer in Why is Witcher 3 so overrated?
IDK, haven't played those games so I can't say.

Skyrim is an excellent game but it's totally different experience than Witcher. It's a sandbox, it's plot is very simple, interactions with NPC are shallow, many quests are mediocre at best. 90% of the fun you get from the game is being able to create your own character and explore the world. In W3 you will always be this particular Geralt but in return, the quests on average are at least one level above Skyrim.

Complaining about Witcher 3 is fine, it can't be the right fit for everyone. Complaining about Witcher's NPC and quests while praising Skyrim on the other hand is something else entirely.
