Link me to this Linpack MKL test.  I have a 7700K delidded direct die (5.3Ghz, 1.5V, -300Mhz AVX) with nothing to do so might as well try to murder it.

Well, just to correct myself somewhat. Truth be told, there will always be faulty components, and generally speaking an Xtreme 1080ti would probably do the job unless it was somehow broken in transit or something.

That being said, if you're on a fairly strict budget, I can do even better than that if need be.

    EVGA 1080ti SC: $720
    EVGA 1080ti SC2: $750
    EVGA 1080ti Black Edition: $710

There's also their US web store for reference HERE

I keep track of the market generally, and have tinkered with cards from different manufacturers. The Strix definitely stands out as a Cooling Performer vs Noise, but, of course, you pay the ASUS premium. The MSI Gaming lineup is alright, albeit slightly less optimal cooling, and same-ish price premium. Gigabyte offers alright pricing, but I think they go way over the top with their bulky, non-cohesive coolers lately, even though their PCBs are pretty overkill, although some would disagree.

If I had to snatch a 1080ti now, unless I just wanted to throw away cash, I'd honestly gravitate more towards the EVGA offerings. They're reasonably priced, they're cooled well, they're not overly bulky for the cooling they offer, and they have the usual excellent EVGA warranty/support. Not to mention the EVGA Step Up program (which allows you to ship in your card at your expense but receive a largely discounted new card from their eligible lineup every couple of years or so I think, something like that). Don't treat this as gospel, just somewhat educated consumer info.

Cool. I'll look into downloading and using OBS. I'll try and record at at least 720p, I can't do 1080p though. My monitor is only 1680x1050, and anything above that chops of the edges of my game.

And yeah, the campaign is awesome, though you do jump from here to there to everywhere. Some level require you to use FakeConsole to win though. Like Kinghtfall, even on normal is incredibly hard/impossible, and there one level where (I tried it 3 times) I had to destroy the engines on a ship. I destroyed all of them expect the last one, and it wouldn't take any damage, no matter what I did. Missed the rest of that mission too.

And I've been playing a ton with Delta's GCW 1035 mod. The troopers look so good I just keep playing as them (and Boba Fett is totally OP and awesome for mowing down/flamethrowering rebel scum. Sadly, the rebel skins don't look as good, so I hardly play as them.

A smartphone for gamers. It may be overly cynical, but that sounds like toilet paper for crane operators, or spoons for gymnasts. Maybe even socks for ventriloquists or a toothbrush for extraterrestrials.

Actually, the latter would be a genuine departure from baseline designs to accommodate a completely new market segment. This phone, however, maybe not so much.

I snatched it off eBay for around $20 while shrieking and pointing like a crazy person.  I dont know where my old copies of the game went but I was super glad to get them back.  Just need to score a Thrustmaster f22pro flightstick now.

This post nailed what I was thinking. In addition, The "____ for gamers" idea has such a bad reputation attached to it. When I hear something is made for GAMERZ, I see a big black hulk of a machine with annoying LEDS and cheap plastic angular crap all over it.

I don't want that, Especially in the context of a phone. I want a phone to be usable, comfortable to hold, and fairly minimalist. I do not want a phone with a big-ass green snake logo on it that can strobe with green light.

Well it just had the current shunts overridden, so no power limit, I got the card to 1527MHz on the core and 1940MHz on the memory, any more will require more voltage. Max temp on the core was 59°C in a room with an ambient of about 15-17, it wasn't totally constant.

Well, I mean, I don't like being the guy who says "bah, games aren't what they used to be". I mean, sure, there were lots of great games released in the early/mid 2000s, lots of great games. On the other hand, the technical ability of a lot of dev teams has gone up to the point where it's really hard to bring something that groundbreaking to the table (coupled with corporate policy, sure). But when it comes to Star Wars specifically, yeah, I have to agree, I do feel that it has simply turned into a skin to clothe all of the cookie-cutter modern mechanics in the arsenal.

Battlefront 2 is going to have a proper singleplayer campaign at least, so yes, I'm anxiously waiting for it. MP is cool and all, but MP isn't everything. And MP only lasts as long as you can take the same choke points, the same killing zones, the same plays and the same mechanics ad infinitum.

Yeah EA has copped enough shit to the point where they're treading very lightly. They will eventually make a mistake again out of complacency, I'm almost 100% sure. But hopefully, outraged social media hordes will react violently enough again to keep them in check. It's the ebb and flow of Publishers prodding consumer cash cows, seeing how far they can go until the eventual outrage and apology. Rinse and repeat. It's I guess a weird form of consumer protection, but it works.

Hmmm, I haven't heard anything to that extent. I sure wish it's true. I'd kill for some more modded spaceflight-oriented content.

Also, yeah, if you do eventually one day get to design your own little game, there's plenty of moddable successful indie projects out there.

First one which comes to mind is The Binding of Isaac. Modding really can't hurt if you're open about it and you're not being a penis.

Not quite sure which one of the 3 posts to quote, but I'll pick this one.

By hardware mods, I meant stuff like soldering additional components to a VRM and such. Just for clarity. Also, there's I think a bit of a problem when it comes to the argument that they aren't obligated to accommodate every eventuality, seeing as a lot of these guys (Der8auer included) get invited to pre-launch gatherings and crank the absolute shiz out of the boards. I mean, before these boards were even out, Roman was lathering them with vaseline and sticking LN2 pots on them. They do know what they're supposed to be put through, it's just that for some reason, they elected to knock the overall quality down a notch by not machining fins into their already existing heatsink block design. It's just a silly thing is the point. They had fins, why not now? It's just an overall better thing for the product. The bottom line is always what matters in the end, but we're not talking budget boards.
