I don't think putting the gateway router on the same physical hardware (ie: virtualized) as the actual enterprise applications server is a good idea.  If you're on the phone to the ISP, and you have to make a change because something isn't working, the last thing you want to be doing is fighting with the virtualizer, especially if there's any question of whether the virtualizer is at fault.  A standalone pfsense box is relatively simple to troubleshoot and connect/disconnect.  And the cost of the hardware and electricity for such a machine is negligible.

Likewise, that big machine you propose, its basically concentrating all one's eggs in one basket.  If it goes down, a company basically has to shut their doors until its back up and running and can be fixed.   The 'cost' of idle capacity is largely that of the amortized capital cost of hardware, as electricity scaling is actually very good these days (ie: a lightly loaded machine uses very little of it!).  And with the cost of hardware these days, its trivial and negligible.

If they were a much larger business, had a dozen or a few hundred servers and could have their system structured for a few spare ones ready to back-up, then sure, the sort of fancy-ness you propose certainly can help reduce costs and improve uptime.  But I'd say for an outfit like LMG, the chief concern should be actually keeping their IT simple enough that they can focus most of their efforts on generating revenue-creating content.  This means going with systems they have expertise in (Linus freely and readily admits he knows little about Linux, which is perfectly okay if he/they can accomplish what they need to accomplish in Windows).

While I like Windows 10 a little more than Windows 7, they are both good operating systems for most people's needs. As mentioned before, I'd agree that this halt in market share growth is related to the end of the free upgrade period. I'd assume that Win10's market share will start growing again, because new PCs will be coming with it installed.

What bothers me most is the market share of Linux ...

Microsoft tried to be Google, but pulled it off with less tact and everyone ended up hating it.

Google is like the cool kid in class. He's not perfect, and he may have a shady record, but his charm keeps everyone liking him.

ch0g0nda reacted to Mira Yurizaki in Is there just a set point a bottleneck will begin at?
Just because your computer doesn't make a graphics card perform as fast as another configuration, all other things considered, doesn't mean you have an absolute performance cap.

Here's where I thought definitely there needs to be an upgrade: when I upgraded my Athlon X2 3800+ system from a GeForce 7800 GTX to a 8800 GT, one game saw no improvement, one game saw less dips, and only one game saw a significant upgrade.

But I messed around with other configurations. One time I had a Core 2 Duo E8400 equivalent run some tests on a GTX 460 SE, then put a GTX 980. The GTX 980 still improved things across the board, but only by a factor of 2.

And in my current config, my i7-6700 did worse in some tests than my i5-4670K with the same video card, but when I upgraded to the GTX 1080, it saw a the same improvement most other people did.

So really, don't worry about not getting the most of your hardware. It's very hard to do that. Just set a performance goal and upgrade when you're not getting it.

I'm also 39 and completely get it, my first PC was a Packard Bell 286 that ran at 8 MHz (12 MHz in turbo mode) and now I have a 4.4GHz hexcore that actually was about $1000 cheaper than the 286.  My kids use the 3d printer for school projects like I used scissors and glue and have trouble believing that a phone was at one point just for talking on.

Do you really think that bolding your words, or making them larger and in a different color actually adds anything to the discussion?

Your definition of unethical conduct is perhaps a little too broad.  I believe in freedom of speech, I proudly wear the label of an asshole.  So please provide some better examples than he says things people don't like to hear.

If the desire is the change the status-quo, the only answer is Trump.  That is simple math.

Bankruptcy can be a very wise business move, so perhaps you should take some time to educate yourself on the subject.  Even in personal life sometimes bankruptcy can be a good move, especially if the rules are in the debtors favor.  I've known a couple people here in Canada who have used Bankruptcy for a positive outcome for themselves.  I don't agree with them but I place no blame on them for using lawful regulations to their advantage.

I believe in climate change, there is plenty of history to prove Earths climates have gone through a number of changes.  I believe it is supremely arrogant to claim we're solely
responsible for it.  I'm perfectly okay with continuing to pollute if it means we can get out of debt.  Here in Canada our government should be doing everything in its power to help get oil and gas to market.  Spend the royalties on developing the infrastructure to eventually transition to clean, self sustainable energy.  We cannot just transition overnight to an emissions free, clean energy, save the world attitude.  We're like a bad case drug addict, you have to ween them down slowly or they might die.

Some of your other comments are essentially name calling and have no place in a civilized debate, thus I won't address them.

No, fuck no.  Trump is not the lesser of two evils.  No, Trump is not better than Clinton.  No.  Every fault in Clinton's campaign, career, or personality is exacerbated in Trump's run.

The difference is that when Clinton's unethical conduct stops, Trump continues to be bad.  When Clinton stops lying, Trump continues to lie.  When Clinton displays ignorance of a topic, Trump will display a monumental level of ignorance of a topic... and many more topics than Clinton.

Sadly, when you look at the questionable status quo politics of Clinton, the Trump camp is not a better choice in any regard. I really mean any regard.

    Trumps done.

He is an avid climate change denier.  It would work 20 years ago, not in 2016.

He does not pay many taxes and determines that bankruptcy is a "smart" business move.

He will take care of ISIS so fast, and pull back the troops from foreign countries... at the same time!

Bottom line, he will try do to stupid things because he is relatively stupid.

You're making little sense. If you're shopping at the 1080Ti price bracket, why get 1080 SLI now? If you're happy with 1080 SLI, why does it matter when Nvidia releases 1080Ti?

Seems like you're more concerned with having the best with dick factor than anything else, plus butthurt that Nvidia is "deceiving" you, when this is standard practice to avoid alerting the competition what their release cadence is going to be.

Seriously, if 1080Ti came out in a year, how would that change anything? You'd still be stuck with 1080 SLI.

YouTube is a platform for anybody to upload anything (within guidelines) to share. By its nature, it isn't beholden to any real programming guidelines and the lack of major sponsorship on most channels lets hosts be loose lipped with impunity. Maybe you should switch to some Aussie tech channels or something? Get away from anybody who cares about your elections... "I get it. I'm an American, and we hardly do anything without the world taking notice..." is hardly the case.
